    My empire of dirt
I'm glad nobody really recommended a foam padding, and that most saw the humor in my post. I'm also sure that quite a few were NOT going to read it.

Get some 2" foam and a yard of vinyl at a craft store, then find a memory foam bath mat (Home Depot and other places have them). Cut the foam and mat 2" wider than the stool, and staple the vinyl over for a cover. All the materials will run you about $30, but you'll have a $60 stool if you're neat about it.

I was pretty much going to suggest the same except a little different. I got vinyl and foam (4"thick) at Hobby Lobby and covered a chair recently. Cost me about $15 total.
