There's a few documented out there (I don't have them) but how would you know what their end game was after being shot dead or running off when the good guy intervenes? :dunno:

Just heard a fellow on the news say that,no armed citizen has ever stopped a mass shooting. Is he correct? Just curious.
It's kind of hard for a law abiding citizen to stop a mass shooting because they're all happening in gun free zone.

If you were to stop a mass shooting before it happened, the news media would not be able to whine about a mass shooting.

If the terrorists that hijacked the airliners and crashed them into building had been stopped, we never would have known the result of what didn't happen.

The only guarantee is that gun free zones seem to be popular target zines for mass shooters.

The sad part of reality is that if you stop something, no one will know that they would have been dead if it wasn't for you.

LPMan59's link is the best source. But realize that the reason that you don't find a bunch of non-police stops of "mass murders" is that shooters who are interested in a larger body count either:
    • have no immediate opposition (often because they are in a gun-free zone) and so have a field day until police arrive
    • are stopped by a good guy with a gun at the location (police or otherwise) before they can hit that many victims
In the second case, the defender doesn't wait until there are four bodies on the ground. Therefore, having a defender on the spot prevents mass shootings from happening and are not counted in the stats. Prevention is better than being able to count mass shootings with non-police stops.

If a mass shooting was stopped by an armed citizen you can be sure that:

    1) It ended up NOT being a mass shooting.
    2) It's therefore NOT newsworthy.

Indeed the "news" these days is not news at all but simply liberal-leftist propaganda. They just lie to suit their narrative.

BTW, you have noticed, I hope, that those people intent on committing mass murder tend to prefer GUN FREE ZONES. Since legal gun carriers are very VERY careful to obey the law, there is a very small likelihood that a legally carried gun is present at a gun free zone mass shooting. But then the liberal-leftist propaganda talking heads know that, it's a part of the plan.

Just a thought about a citizen returning fire: He will now be their target. Will responders be able to ID the "good guy" vs the actual gunman? Yes, I agree to self defense, but panic and havoc prevail with the kind of attack. Real "gray area" to consider. Wife and kids in tow? You can't train all to react to an active shooter response, and guarantee safety.
Gun free zones seem to attract this. Employers fire you if you have a firearm on their property. Lose your life, no. Job, yes. Now what? You carry, stop the threat, and are terminated from some office schmoe with a calculator for liability. Sad times to live on. Family still suffers. You find a job. Why did they terminate your last job? You are a gun waving lunatic???? Sad.
Think Run Forest, Run. Even armed. No stats?

Who cares? Are you going to stop carrying, or owning a gun because it has or hasn't made a difference? What about tomorrow, when it may make a difference, if only for you and yours? If you are looking at stats, YOU, aren't training enough to be THE DIFFERENCE! No one, but YOU, can be responsible for what happens to you and yours!

If someone successfully stopped a mass shooting, I'm not sure how anyone would know. It wouldn't be a mass shooting if it was stopped.

Ancillary question: Is there a protection for a citizen who is trying to stop a nut job? In other words, if you draw to protect others and someone gets hit by accident what happens? Do law enforcement have a protection, legally, from an accident in the face of that kind of incident?

    a reverse "Good Samaritan" law

Doesn't matter in the end. Do what's required for the situation to save lives and be ready to pay the price for it if you have to, no good deed is left unpunished.

This right here is my biggest response when people say that there hasn't ever been a "mass shooting" stopped by an armed civilian...

Seems to me those two guys that "visited" the convention down in Texas where they were displaying cartoons didn't fare too well.
