Saw this on a different forum, but thought it would be interesting to do it here because they all would be local stories. So, what is the stangest thing you have seen in the woods?
If you have pics share them. Also tell us where it happened. Feel free to share, even if it is a "I saw bigfoot" story though you may get some:rolleyes:. If it happened to you share. These stories are always fun. Just no made up stuff.

While cutting and splitting wood today, my wife found an old .50 or .60 ball (maybe bigger, who knows frags could still be in there) buried in the center of a walnut tree. This tree had been down for at least 20 years, we cut it up, hauled it home and when she split it, there was the ball. Upon examining the log, I found NO entry marks, who knows how old that thing is. Not really strange, but neat...

As a teenager, my younger brother and I hiked into a woods about 1/2 mile away from our home as a shortcut to a neighbor's house that we wanted to visit. The woods was about 1/8 of a mile square, with farm fields on all four sides. Near the center of it was an old grave marker with a female's name on it (Margaret?), but no date(s). After visiting the neighbor as planned we hiked home.

I inquired of the neighbors that owned the land about any knowledge of the gravestone as they have owned the land since the late 1800's. No one knew anything about it.

One foggy summer morning three of us met with a plan to spend the day fishing. We parked along a country road and waited for the landowner to come along and unlock a gate. When he showed up and unlocked the gate our four trucks were the only ones parked along the road and there were woods all around.

The three of us walked down a narrow lane through the fog and then through a grove of young oak trees that bordered the pond where we planned on fishing. On the near edge of the pond there is a dock with a small picnic table nearby. As I was setting down my tackle box one of my buddies said "Hey, look at that."

On the table there was a black lacy bra and a coffee cup, one of the styrofoam type cups from a mini-mart. The coffee was still hot and had steam rising from it. We never saw anyone or any other signs of a person being out there. We didn't know if we had interrupted somebody skinny dipping or getting lucky on the picnic table. We weren't being quiet as we walked up so we figured whoever it was must have heard our voices and took off.

I was headed to upstate New York about 25 years ago. It was about 100 miles North of Syracuse off of 81. I was going down St. road 178. At the corner of St. Rd. 178 and St. Rd. 177 there was about 150 snowshoe rabbits all in a clearing next to the woods. They were in a 150' sq. foot area. I watched them 15 min. tying to figure out what they were doing. Having a party I gress.

Many years ago, down in northern Perry County while walking the proposed alignment for the new SR145 project, me and my partner came up on someones pot farm in a large area with a relatively open tree canopy. We backed off and gave the place a wide berth as there might have been someone armed close by or the site may have been boobie-trapped. We did not pull out our maps or aerial photos at that particular time to accurrately locate the spot in case someone might have been watching. We reported this when we got back into the office. Whether anything was ever done about this, we never followed up on. We do know that the farm was gone when the surveyors went throught a year or so later.

A friend and I were pheasant hunting several years ago and were walking a hedgerow. Just on front of us, a cayote charged us growling and we both raised and fired, we assumed he may have been rabid or something. Never had one do that before.

I suspect that many INGO members are also GlockTalk members...

A thread with the same vein has been going on there for about a year and a half, now. Many many many pages of people's experiences. There are also a few links to similar threads on more message boards.

Not to take away from this thread at all, but if you want to be entertained for HOURS, go here: What is the strangest thing you have seen in the woods? - Glock Talk

Who cares about what you found. How did you get your wife outside to help split wood??

Total fiction but I believed it at the time. I was going through a cowboy stage.

I was 5, living in Nebraska, some family came to visit and go Pheasant hunting and see my Dad one more time before his returning to Vietnam.

I was allowed to tag along and run with the dogs. As was true to my nature I set off on my own adventure. I found an old stand of pines, pushed through and found an old run down homestead and graves. I was convinced I had just found the grave of Jesse James. I needed to report back with my great find.

I also came to realize I was a bit lost. I did make my way back to inform them of the great news. I like to think Dad knew where I was the whole time, but who knows? They did not seem that moved by the whole thing and then showed me the spot of a Pheasant kill made by a Fox.

RIP Jesse. Sorry dude, I never made it back.

    In order of most interesting:

    Dead guy.
    Mutilated pig with satanic grafiti.
Pair of Hemi Firedome DeSoto cars at the bottom of a cliff.
Winchester levergun at the bottom of an old cistern.
    Huge stash of porn.
