Op, where did you get your supplies at? Can you post up pictures of your setup? I on the fence on making my own or just buying a barber strop.

I got the supplies at Woodcraft on 86th st and picked up an epoxy gorilla glue at Lowes.

What I made ain't purty, just something to get the job done. Since it did, I'll be making some more but I'll make them look good.

I took a protractor and measured off a 20 degree angle then marked it on the side. All you have to do is line up the blade and hold that angle as you strop. Easy stuff.

Ok, I'll play. One side has the suede side out with green compound the other side is smooth side out with just a little turtle wax chrome polish. Leather is from Tandy and wood is from Lowe's scrap bin. Total investment= $10

My strop jig has rare earth magnets embedded in the top. The strop tops have steel mending plates in dados that line up with the magnets on the jig base. The elevated stropping surface provides comfortable knuckle clearance. Hermann Oak veg tanned 6-7 oz. leather, bare Horween horse butt, Bark River compounds black, green and white, Baltic birch plywood, contact cement. Strop tops are 3" x 11".

I make mine with 3"x3" poplar wood for a nice light package. 8-9oz premium veg. leather. JRE industries black, green, pink, and bare leather to finish it off.

Do you guys feel there is much advantage of a 3" over the 2" strops? I am ordering from Tandy so I can see how I like it for myself stropping instead of just using my sharpmaker only

I would say the three since it gives you a wider surface. I just got my first strop Sunday so it's all still new to me. I am sure the experts will be along here in a minute to give a better answer or opinion.

Anything 1.5" and wider will work just fine. I like to use the x pattern when I strop so I prefer a narrower strop. Plus, I like to take one with me.

If you're going straight back in your stropping motion, a wider surface area would be better. Just remember light, even strokes with the same pressure at the tip as at the base.

I got a strop from Buckstopshere a while back and can attest to the quality of this thing.

I've used it on almost all my blades and it has consistently worked great!

JD, I look forward to seeing the next evolution of Da Strop !!!!
