Would like to take my 11 year old grandson out to eat in a Amish restaurant next weekend. Open for any and all suggestions.
Sorry I should have said in or around Nappanee.

Agreed with super bee on Essenhaus, never been to the Blue Gate, but I'm currently working right down the road and it smells really good.
Although, neither is in nappanee...or really close

In between Nappanee and Bremen 1 mile south of US 6 is a spot called Rentown. Very rural and nice. It has lots of Amish businesses but main attraction is the restaurant and store. Restaurant is fair priced and busy. The store has weekly sales with at least 2 types of cheese in the 2 to 3$ # range. Also ham around $2.50#. Nice place to visit

Thank you flyingsquirrel. This is what I was looking for. Know the area well as I have been going to this area for work over the last five years. Never had a chance to really look around and see what was there.

I pass thru Nappanee every month and have never tried any of the Amish restaurants in the area. I always see a bunch of buggies and bikes at the Nappanee Dairy Queen, so maybe that's what the Amish recommend? The DQ is one of my lunch stops in the area.

I'm going to have to try some of the places suggested here.

Is the Amish Acres still doing the "Amish" restaurant thing? I know all of that changed hands a couple of years ago, so wasn't sure. The last time we ate there was 10+ years ago and I wasn't very impressed then. My "Amish" waitress was pretty much tatted up on any visible skin with multiple piercing, including the bone in the nose.

If you go to Rentown, I could use a couple 50# bags of unbleached flour. LOL

I really need to make a run for my baking supplies. The cheese is just a bonus. We always buy too many kinds and I end up putting some of it in the freezer.
