I just recently came back from vacation in Michigan and took a shotgun with me.

MI DNR is very strict do not take your rifle into a park without a proper hunting license or during the wrong season.

For generel transport long guns must be unloaded, in a locked case, outside the passenger compartment, and ammo must be seperate.

Here is the thread I started about the subject on Michigan Gun Owners...

Ok thanks for the info. I'm not hunting or anything I just bought a new ruger 10/22 takedown model and I was wanting to show it to my brother when I head up to visit this weekend. I'll have to figure out how to lock it up though, it comes in a backpack style carrying case/bag.

I have never locked it up. Lived in MI my whole life, we always just cased it and put it somewhere in the gun where nobody can get to it. Ammo separate.

cool, thanks for the info guys. I just looked and the zippers on the bag have holes that overlap so that you can put a lock on it if you want.
