i've heard their 1911 have been plagued with some issues (can't cite that, sorry), since they are newer to the 1911 scene.

Never seen the first one come back for any kind of repair...
And of my own...I will say that mine is probably the most accurate out of the little 1911 family in the safe...but I don't want to buy a special holster for it, so I likely won't ever carry it. I love the Nitron finish, though!!

Pretty sure we were speaking in generalities. If you wan't to compare the best they have to offer to the mid-range offerings everyone else has, be my guest. You're only misleading yourself.

oh no your the one that said from 900 to 1200 and that falls right in with a GCNM....

I wouldn't even give that for it. Until Colt fixes their ratty machines, they're not worth more than a gun produced in a third world country.

ratty?......you mean rattly????......you need to come and shoot my ratty GCNM.....it will out shoot a 3k WC all day long......as you can try both and here and see what you think:dunno:

ryan3030, i do want opinions. so thank you.
i'm set on a 1911 and although i do respect the work sig does, i've heard their 1911 have been plagued with some issues (can't cite that, sorry), since they are newer to the 1911 scene. and since colt has been making them since the 20's it seems like a good bet. also the USMC just contracted Colt for 22.5m worth of 1911s. it seemed logical to me.

nevertheless. all that info/opinion is very helpful and much appreciated.

It definitely is hard to argue with their proven track record. If you do buy a Colt you will not be disappointed, they are reliable as can be.

A quick look at gun broker shows 1 for less than $1500. The rest are $1500-$2000. :):

Don't get me wrong, I'd love to have a Colt, but for my money there is better to be had. My dad has an 80 Series Colt 1911 that I shoot sometimes, it's pleasant in all regards.

:+1: Neither of mine have had a failure of any type yet. They probably have 2000 rounds of experience between them both. But they are basically spoiled safe guns, that get cleaned and lubed after every 200-300 round range session. They don't see the hard conditions in which colts have been tested and proven.

That Wiley Clapp Colt Commander you are looking for is a great pistol and 1300.00 for it is about average. It already has everything done to it custom wise that you would need. Novak rear sight and bead front, checkered front strap and beavertail grip safety. Bear in mind that this particular model has an aluminum frame and is not steel if that makes a difference to you. Don't let the Colt haters (Kimber, spfd, sig, RI etc. lovers) get you down, everyones pet 1911 brand has had their share of issues so if you like the Colt go ahead and get it!

I believe the 1911 was made by Colt long before the 20's. It's called the 1911 for a reason. Quoted from 1911 history:

"Following its success in trials, the Colt pistol was formally adopted by the Army on March 29, 1911, thus gaining its designation, M1911 (Model 1911). It was adopted by the Navy and Marine Corps in 1913. Originally manufactured only by Colt, demand for the firearm in World War I saw the expansion of manufacture to the government-owned Springfield Armory."

 Thanks for the history lesson.

little more to it.....Remington made 21k at that time too and in 1926 M1911's went to M1911A1's until the end of product in 1945.....

I've not heard that SIG has had any issues with their 1911's. The Mosquito, yes, but not 1911's. I served in the Corps and the Colt 45 was the weapon we fired back in those days...Good weapons, solid performance, but nothing like a SIG today! I own a SIG C3 and would take it over an issue Colt any day of the week.

right, but the m1911a1, which is what i thought all modern 1911s are modeled, was built in the 20s. could be wrong.
