I'm looking to buy a new target rifle. Something bigger than a .22lr. Would like to do some 100+yard shooting and would like to blow some stuff up (tannerite). Any favorites, was thinking of a Remington 700, not sure of caliber.

700 or savage will fit your bill. honestly any caliber will fit your bill as well. I usto recomend the 223 because of ammo avability and price, Now im rethinking that

Most anything from a 700/savage will be 2000 fps @ 100 yards. 22-250 is a good caliber, I'm not sure on ammo prices, this whole buying crazy has everything turned upside down. 22-250 will out preform the 223 all day long, and right now ammo might be cheaper or the same price.

I've been hearing a lot of people talking about 22-250 lately. What's your opinion of this?

22-250 is a great caliber but just too much for "target" shooting, you burn a lot of powder, get a great big boom, wake up the dead, and make some real neat pink mist out of varmits

I'm still a fan of 222, and 223, ammo for 222 isn't super easy to find ammo for but its a neat caliber that is just a nice 200yd gun,

bolt guns don't burn up the 1000's of rounds an AR does and a couple hundred good cases will keep you busy,

    100 yards!

Get a 1:9 twist Savage .223 and don't look back. It will shoot 1" or better at 100 yards right out of the box. There's no need for any larger caliber for paper-punching and Tannerite lighting at that distance. For that matter, there's no need for anything bigger at 200-300 either. As soon as the current situation resolves itself, .223 will return to being available just about everywhere.

    Ugh!

You had me at Target Rifle. You lost me at "blow some stuff up".

My target rifle book doesn't have a chapter on Tannerite. Sorry. :(

I never said anything about plinking rounds on a paper target at 25 yards.

My paper target work is done between 200 & 1, 000 yards. :D

"Target" is just a generic term.

True. However, "Target Rifle" is another matter all together.

    Get a $450 Savage rifle...

    Then get a $250 scope / rings.

Do. not. skimp. on. rings. and. glass. Don't do it. You'll be sorry.
