I like the comments that state things like "I will now shop at Target again!" Give me a break, you didn't quit shopping there because they had no policy against firearms. Most every store follows state laws, so where were these people shopping?

I don't give a flying **** what Target or anyone else wants. They can kiss my ass.

So eloquently put. It disheartens me that these are prevalent issues in our society. The problem that we're seeing is that more lib stores like Target catering to their Lib demographics and pushing out those who want to abide by the law but more importantly just want to be left the f*** alone. If your store has a posted NO GUNS sign, well fine, I'll vote with my dollars elsewhere. I wont disarm myself so I can spend my hard earned money at your establishment. I wont conform to your rules when I'm doing you a service by supporting your business. But Target and places alike don't care. Because myself, and people like me are not their bread and butter. We are the minority to them.

Well, I suppose this gives a new meaning to the name "Target". Another tragedy just waiting to happen. How stupid. :(

Walmart has no problem with carry, either CC or OC, I guess I'll head to Walmart from now on.

In the past I have shopped at Target very frequently. Between birthdays and Christmas, I purchase about $250 in gift cards annually. My wife does some grocery and pharmacy shopping there which probably adds up to at least another $250. Add the occasional kitchen appliance or cook ware, and throw in some seasonal greeting cards, and I would conservatively estimate that we have averaged in the neighborhood of $750 annually at Target. Oh well, the cost of being a socialist suck-up to angry moms has its cost. :dunno:

I'll be letting Target no why I will no longer be patronizing their stores.

Target is playing the PR game. The message can be summed up as, "Please don't make our store a place to make your statement" which is a fine request, considering OCT is just as bad as MDA some days.

Target tries to silence furor by politely asking for no firearms in its stores | Star Tribune

"We will not be posting signs...There is no ban...this is not a prohibition."

A respectful request is just that. Target is caught between a rock and a hard place. Concealed means concealed. Don't be an OCT moron.

More crap for me to buy tomorrow!!!

Wow, you guys are taking this so seriously. It's a dumb rule meant to address a dumb complaint about even dumber people. If you are any smart, it doesn't apply to you.

This is a concise, accurate way to consider this whole topic.

This "policy" is just a soundbite for the weak-minded that want the policy in place. I laughed when I read some comments from a couple articles (not reader comments, actual parts of the article). One I read was about how not having guns in the stores will make moms more comfortable. I did laugh at that. Here in a NE Indy suburb, I know a decent percent of moms themselves carry. My Target is always packed with moms and their kids. The crazy thing is that here, such a misguided policy (if moms actually knew about it) could risk offending the customer base they care so much about.

I did call and talk with the store manager and while she did say this was a company-wide policy, the target is more on open carry and the discomfort that poses. I can understand that. But she also said they won't be asking anybody to leave. It's totally up to people to comply on their own. She also acknowledged constitutional right to carry. She gave a good response considering the difficult position corporate has put all stores in. But at the end of the day, this is just to placate a noisy group of illogical, weak-minded people.

But people on this forum should know better than to get all worked up. If you are smart, you know this is nothing to make a fuss about. Saying you're going to shop somewhere else is kind of silly if you understand the context of their statement and its realistic implications. I will continue to carry in Target (that 5% RedCard discount is awesome, plus it's just a dramatically superior shopping experience compared to Walmart or Meijer in my opinion) and will do so proudly with the knowledge my rights, and my ability to be ready to protect anybody I need to, trump any silly policy. And really, it's not even a policy, it's just a request. No big deal. Stop making it one.

I will still OC at Target if I have reason to go in. By the way, I shopped Walmart in Brownsburg last night while OCing as usual. And, no problems (as usual).

My family rarely if ever shops at Target, but thats why they call it "concealed carry" To be 1000% honest as long as I'm reasonably sure I can't get caught( Read metal detectors) save for inside my boys school I C/C almost every where I go in Indiana regardless, and if any family is with me I always carry. That is why I absolutely hate, hate, hate going to baseball games in Chicago as now both Sox and Cubs wand everyone who enters, so now I can't even have a edged weapon on me. As we all know mad men who's intent is the slaughter of the innocent prefer unarmed and defenseless victims.

Exactly how many mass shootings have ever taken place at shooting ranges of police stations? you know the type of places mass shooters will 100% have to deal with armed potential victims who can actually SHOOT BACK.

Sure you can, OBSIDIAN blade with a bone or wood handle. Razor sharp and cool as he!!.

My insurance steers me to use the Target Pharmacy. I have been in and out twice in the last two days and no one paid any attention. I do not carry a big bright pistol in a fancy tacticool holster, but anyone who would look would see the grip sticking out the top of my pants.

I am typically OC this time of year. I will continue to go about my normal routine. If I get hassled for it at my local Targets. I will leave like a good boy and then write to them. But before I just quit my local store as I mentioned above, I am curious to see what the attitude of the staff / management is at the local store, I will give them a chance, prepared to say good bye if need be. There are three Targets near me, the closest one is only 6 blocks away.

    Decided to rant on target.com:

I work security for an important family and carry a personal protection firearm. Your new policy speaks to me, for I frequent your store. Can target be so narrow minded to allow some fringe crazies to shape its corporate policy. Your string of individual attacks resonates strongly in my home. Target has allowed my credit card to be "stolen". I am also offended by your assault on Christmas and those who are charitable, like the Salvation Army. My family celebrates Christmas. Your policies say more about you than your nifty commercials. My $$$ say more about me than this letter. Please understand this polite farewell. JDM

We've been winning without the "all eyes on me" open carry stuff, but yet now that people feel the need to flaunt not just one handgun, but two or three, and head out with AKs, ARs, etc., I wonder if we are going to keep winning. We won prior to this whole concept that we need people out and about to see guns otherwise the laws will go against us. I don't know of one state law that went from no carry to carry (OC or CC) that was changed because people went to another state and saw someone OCing their handgun at Walmart, Target, a coffee shop, etc.. People wanted the ability to protect themselves while out and about, but I believe the vast majority of these folks wanted to do this discreetly, as in CC. OC is an absolute game changer and the current play on words will make sure it continues to be an issue. The more vocal MDA types will absolutely demand something be done, and when the manager doesn't do it, it will start to become an issue again. Yes, they show a lack of logical skills with their "see no evil there will be no evil" mindset. To some of them, the firearm is evil and if it is hidden or some policy (not law) claims there will be no evil, no wrong doing, then that means everyone is safe.

This is just the start. Hopefully the bulk of the MDA crowd is OK with the silly worded policy and won't start demanding more when they see the occasional OCer at Target. Of course if groups of people continue to OC rifles, multiple handguns, etc. to flaunt the carefully worded language of the request, then I can see MDA ramping up their demands, which will be to post signs, have employees request OCers leave, call the cops, etc.. It will be interesting to see where this goes. This group will put the pressure on every single national retailer until they all issue similar press relea
No one really cares about the numbers in "mass" shootings if you or your loved one is a victim. These people don't care if it is just one dead and fifty with minor injuries, they just don't want to see a return of the "wild wild west." They don't want to think we live in a society where everyone not only has to be armed, but they have to flaunt that they are armed via OC. As far as attacks on PDs, in recent times Detroit, MI had one as well as Moscow, ID.
am I understanding you correctly? Do you think that everyone who carries openly is "flaunting" the fact that they have a gun?

Seems to me that crime would go up for target because criminals know that no one will be able to stop them now

I OC almost exclusively and will continue to do so if/when I go to Target. And those who CC will continue. Most people who OC will continue (like me).

So, nothing has changed other that Target making a feckless request to appease their lawyers and shareholders.
