I went shooting with a friend of mine last week. We brought a wide variety of weapons including his "new" Taurus that he had gotten a day or two earlier. I'm not sure the exact model. It was a hammerless .357 in stainless steel or nickel. (I'm a glock guy so i don't know it was shiny). Anyways we fired less than fifty rounds through it of both .357 and .38 Special. During a reload the cylinder feel to the ground along with a small spring and a small rectangular piece. He got it back together but the cylinder wouldn't stay in place, it just kept spinning. Needless to say it wasn't fired anymore that day. Is this a common trend with Taurus or just a failure of his particular gun?

Nope. Not common at all in any revolver. Sounds like something broke and needs fixing. Fortunately, Taurus has a lifetime warranty. He needs to contact them and they'll take care of it. Never have had a hiccup out of my Taurus revolver. Or my semi auto.

Taurus guns are junk, if you ask me. I've owned 3, all of them with problems. A PT-145 that wouldn't feed ball ammo, a model 85 snub with cylinder binding after about 50 rounds, and a PT738 that broke the mag release about 20 shots into its first outing. That doesn't count the .44 special snub (can't remember the model number) that arrived at my FFL COVERED in rust.

Eff Taurus. Seriously. If you ever get to know someone who works in a high volume gun shop, ask them which manufacturer they have to constantly send guns back to for repairs. (Both semiautos AND revolvers)

Learned my lesson. Never again will the bull get me with his horns.

Interesting. I have owned several Tauri over the years and all have worked just fine. Interestingly enough every Charles Daly and Escort shotgun (you know those crummy Turkish autos) have all worked just fine. In contrast the new Walther pistol and even a Thompson Center Rifle that I have purchased all had to be sent back for repair after the first range session. Even my Ruger Red Label shotgun had to make a trip to a gun smith. Point is you can get a bad gun from any manufacturer or a gun can break. Broken guns can be fixed. What really matters is the service that you receive.

It is my opinion however that the new guns being manufactured are not of the same quality that they were 10 years ago. :dunno:

Stop throwing your guns at the target and start shooting them. I've never had a gun break. Knock, knock.

I currently have a PT140 IWB and an 85 in my pocket while my Glock 19 sits in the safe. Every manufacturer will have problems.

I have not had a Taurus of my own but some of my friends have. Of them I know of three different revolvers that had to be sent back. Out of those three two weren't ever fixed.

Taurus will have to change a lot to get me to buy anything from them.

You asked if taurus sucks or just a lemon. My answer is from all my reading taurus does indeed suck. In the interest of full disclosure I have never owned one. The reason is all the bad I have read about them. Furthermore where pre-lock smith and wesson revolvers go up in value if cared for a taurus never will appreciate IMHO:twocents:

Everyone makes a lemon from time to time, and parts fail! That's is mechanics my friends. A friend of my Dad bought a Marlin bolt action a couple of years ago. He had an issue with the bolt, and sent it in for repair. Said he would never buy another one. I have owned several Marlin bolt actions, and have never had an issue.

You have never owned one, but you are going to throw judgment?

For the record. I have shot numerous Taurus revolvers and have never had a single issue. My Dad owned different models over the years, and never a single issue.

You bet I am. I read, read read before any major purchase and it is through that reading that I formulate an opinion. Is is called educating one's self. Are you saying I am not entitled to an opinion based on reading??? Based on what I have read they have WAY more problems than say S&W. Since when is someone not entitled to an opinion base on reading a LOT on the internet as well as talking to others. BTW - my brother owns one - I will never buy taurus.

I had one of the first model 85's that blew up while shooting some reloads and Taurus had no problem fixing it. It did take awhile but they sent me a new one, no questions asked. I had a PT-92 with adj. sites that wouldn't shoot to POA no matter what I tried so I really have no complaints with them. I would buy another Taurus if I found something I wanted and the price was right.
