I have a tc contender with a super 14 30-30 barrel. It has the original tc 4rp scope on it. Its overall in good condition for its ago. It has been hunted with several times. Im thinking about selling it and not sure what a fair price would be. I tried doing some research and found a little info but there was a really wide range in all the prices i saw. Thanks for the help

The few I've seen at gun shows were $800 plus and looked beat all to hell.

The Presentation Pachmayr grip is one nobody wants. They want the Pachmayr Gripper and those run 75 bucks NOS.
Forends, the preferred is the no medallion. 35 bucks and up for NOS.
Mine wears such a setup and thats what it cost me a yr ago. And a little less on the one i had 2 yrs prior.

Typically, bbl w factory muzzle brake are lesser than non ported.

The rail type TC scopes are not really sought after. They work fine but are old stuff. They did do a rail mount version of the 2-7x. Dunno when that was stopped. Had rail and reg versions of that scope and they were both good.

Some folks want a Contender. And some want an old school package setup.

Frames are getting silly priced but some normal prices exist.

Barrels have gone silly too. Folks want double what they were ( used ) before S&W shuttered TC

The PCR stuff pretty much killed specialty pistol hunting IMHO and IHMSA is about done.

The frame pictured is a 1st generation Contender.
It will not accept some of the newer barrels and forends.
Still desirable, but likely will not bring quite what the G2 frames do.
They will accept a broader range of calibers, Encore frames even more.
You should probably still be able to get the $700-$800.

I had a G2 and an Encore PH.
Prefer the feel and look of the orig Contender :)
As long as its an Easy Open frame.
OPs looks to be an easy open, think I can see the trigger pivot pin.

Seen some older ones converted for sale on other sites.

Also.............the orig Contender w cat on a rock, think that looks best.
They kinda cartooned it when they did just the cat face on the stainless ones.

    My current Contender.........is stainless.

Being a contender fan if you want to sell it let me know.

Collecting wise the forend and grip are emmmh. Everyone wants the walnut ones. Are the originals in a shoe box somewhere?

The first gen frame has the best trigger break and does give 10 precent bump on price. Don’t let the got to be a second gen or easy open fool you. Most collectors want gen 1.

30/30 is popular round in the contender but there are a ton of them that were made for handgun hunting and it better have no marks for a collection.

The scope is a 50/50. So will complain of the glass. Some will want the era.

I think I see the uncle mikes shoulder holster in the background. 65 bucks up.

Rear sight? Front sight? Hinge pin wear? Frame hole wear? Rust in the screws or screw holes? Rust under the grip? I don’t think that is an issue with your but I have seen a couple frames where the grip was never removed and got a little water between.

I prefer original Contender easy open and pivot safety.
The early ones had no safety, then sliding bar.
All of mine were sliding bar or pivot.

Yeah walnut is silly priced. The fingergroove w rubber recoil pad are nice. The rynite of same is comfy too, and thinner than the Pachmayr Gripper.

But Gripper tames the recoil a bunch.

The old Silhouette walnut is neat, thumb rest non finger groove grip, forend for the 14" has an odd profile.
Cool period stuff. But Id run that on a .223 or similar.
Anything that booms gets a Gripper.

I dislike the feel of the G2 Contender. Even w G2 Pachys. Its too Encore like. Trigger angle and feel just suck compared the Original Contender. But a G2 is strong enough for 6.5 Grendel.

Like the Original enough to not worry about the cartridge limits. I stay inside of that and just shoot em
