A friend just called me and asked me about selling his Barrett M107A1. It has the Leupold Mark 4 M1 scope and has had 9 rounds fired. He says he's got over $13K in the gun. I know next to nothing about Barretts. Is there a much of a market for slightly used Barretts and what could he expect to get out of it? Thanks.

By the way, I have no interest of any manner in the gun.

I have one and it's a great rifle. Not a real big market for them in Indiana. Not many ranges allow them so in my opinion you pretty much have to have a private range, know someone who has a private range or live close enough to one that you can justify spending that kind of money on one. I think if he wants to sell it the best bet would be gunbroker. Haven't checked used prices lately though. They hold their value for the most part as long as they are taken care of and the barrel isn't shot out.:twocents:

There is a market for them, but they lose value pretty quick. You have to think, near every gun owner could use something like a Glock 19. Of the gun owners out there, 2% could use a Barret, of that 2%, 5% could afford it. Of that 5%, 1% want that configuration. That means the remaining fraction of a percent expect a pretty hefty saving's, or they would buy new. Anytime you buy used you never really know the round count, unless you know/trust the original owner.

I agree that the 338 doesn't have the stigma of the 50, and therefore is much easier to find places to shoot, but the 50 sure has a fun factor for everyone who I let shoot it. And I've bought nice Brazilian military surplus ammo for $1.50 a round, and I don't think there is any 338 Lapua nearly that cheap.

I makes me curious for the OP, how do you invest $13k in a gun and be ready to sell it after 9 shots?

And $3k is rediculous, there would be a line of people at that price and I'd be in it.

So the M99 in your link is the single-shot gun, which I have. The OP is talking about an M107 semi-auto. Completely different guns and WAY different prices.

IMO, that's probably one of the coolest 50 cal precision on the planet. Slap a QDL on the end, BORS on top, and find a really big piece of land to shoot on  Unfortunately that's well above my pay grade, and I'd venture to guess that goes for majority of shooters.

Agreed, completely different animal and a ridiculous comparison. "OutdoorDad", do a little more homework

    mea culpa.

I think that's latin for "get off my back, I'm doin the best I can!" :crying:

Or it might be latin for I TOTALLY MISSED THIS!!!

    Sorry all.

I'm not seeing anything on gbroker bid above $9k for the semi auto. And buyers and sellers aren't meeting up at that price.

Thats like saying Ford escort's are only worth 3k, so your Cobra mustang is worth 3k.

Also if I have my way, and the OP sells for 3k, it will be sold before the line forms.

I'm about 30 minutes north of Richmond in Farmland, if you buy it let me know and we'll have a place to go shoot them.

I love just getting it out and letting people shoot it, the muzzle blast is amazing but the recoil is extremely mild. I had it out at a friend's place in June and let my sister-in-law and all her friends shoot it, they had a great time.

It's a very nice rifle, and if I wanted to go big, that would be the one. It is nice also because it is designed about 5 lbs lighter than the older Barret semi auto, and is rated for a silencer which would beat the old ones to death as well as void their warranty. https://www.barrett.net/firearms/m107a1

My stepson trained on the 50 Cal while in the Army. He was a special forces guy and told me the max they allowed him to fire in a 24 hour period was 75 rounds. This was due to the concussion fear. He said it was like being punched in the face each time you fired it. I would love to fire one just to experience it. I am seriously considering doing the Rec 7 course at the factory in TN. Anyone ever attended any of the Barrett training programs?

The recoil on the Barrett M99 bolt-action is more mild than a 12-gauge shotgun, in my opinion, due to the great muzzle break. I have not shot the semi-autos.
