Well, at least Obama has the political sense to smack down his Transportation Secretary's asinine idea about taxing the miles we drive......
Obama Administration Shoots Down LaHood Mileage Tax Idea - First 100 Days of Presidency - Politics FOXNews.com
This is particularly galling:
A tentative plan in Massachusetts to use GPS chips in vehicles to charge motorists by the mile has drawn complaints from drivers who say it's an Orwellian intrusion by government into the lives of citizens. Other motorists say it eliminates an incentive to drive more fuel-efficient cars since gas guzzlers will be taxed at the same rate as fuel sippers.
Forced GPS monitoring of travel, in order to tax us? As far as I'm concerned, this is the line....
Unfortunately, you're probably right. The next 4 years will take vigilance to ensure that these asinine ideas don't take root. Rather than thanking Obama (sarcasm added), I am more thankful that at least he is politically astute enough to come out publicly against this idea. Maybe. Puzzling that it was HIS transportation secretary that floated the idea, though. Either he is not in control of his own cabinet (incompetence), or he is cleverly using others to float his ideas, judge the reaction, and then act accordingly (cleverly devious).
The real purpose of this kind of system is to keep track of the people. I have never been one to wear a tin foil cap, but this just reeks of an Orwellian big-brother plot.
Unfortunately, these crazy libtard ideas will continue to surface and be proposed until something "sticks". FDR had a "chicken in every pot" and Obama seems to have "a socialist in every key government position" Give them time, they will show their true colors
