I read another article on it and I believe a woman in Panama City is paying for the salvage and plans to refit it and sail it. When it's all said and done she'll probably have 30-40k in a 40-50k boat. Eyes of the beholder and all that . . . . . . I've seen them from 29k to 460k for a full on cat with ALL the goodies.

My cousin is a licensed captain driving yachts for VERY rich people.

Hah, I wish. I get a lot of fulfillment out what I do now. I’m hoping I can eventually own a boat and take it out 10+ weeks a year.

50’ cat rentals for a week are around $15-20k. Incredible work if you can get it.

    Hoosierdoc,

As a thought would you consider crewing a boat?

A ships doctor gets paid well, and the free travel would be good. There are a lot of companies that could put you up for recruitment, and you could sail the world while getting paid for it. You could do anything from a medium sized sailboat, a giant cruise ship, or a billionaire's private yacht.

Why pay to travel when you could get paid to travel?

    Just a thought...

    Regards,

    Doug

i looked into cruise ship medicine. They make about $80k/year. No thanks. In retirement I could work a week a month and travel for three without touching my nest egg. I’m sure private charters would pay better but i’m Not political enough to get those gigs. I’m just a guy who punches a timecard

besides, I got my own yacht today
