In my career field there is not much in Indiana anymore since the state focused all medical years ago (electronics marketing). Well an amazing (i.e. way too good to pass up for what it means long-term for my family) opportunity in California was offered to me. As a Conservative, 2A supporter and true believer in supporting personal rights moving to a Nanny state is really scary.

A quick Internet search says most of my weapons will be deemed illegal in Commie-fornia. (NFA stuff, ARs, high capacity mags, etc.). Seems getting a CC license is a long shot too...ugh.

So looking for anyone with real experience (i.e. not what you read on the Internet). What is the real story here? What traps do I need to watch out for?

Side note...Moving to So. Cal so area's that are better than others for school?, living? etc. (will probably need to live further East as the cost of living is just too high near the beach communities).

    Thanks!

I guess this means we'll have to add "except for lordjackel" to the end of all our sentences expressing the wish that California would drop into the sea.

    My condolences.

I was trying to find a way to say something along those lines.........This works^^^^^^^^^^^

Cali can be a great place. You have desert to high mountains inside of a hour or 2. Ocean breezes if you wish.
You also have congestion...Hi-way/smog around the big urban areas. The issue is the big Urban ares seem to start up north and run all the way down the coast. Just an endless sea of humanity. Been there with Racing teams many many times. Would never live there. JMHO.

I have been there for business many times...and your're right lots to do and see (think my kids will enjoy it for awhile). I too never thought I would live there.

That's a tough decision, OP. That big money is tough to turn down. If you haven't already, start comparing costs of living differences between here or anywhere else you've gotten offers and California. It's possible that raise isn't as big as it appears, especially when you consider the other trade offs. I looked at a job in upstate New York a few years ago...I was not going to get a raise large enough to make up the differences.

Consider what your mental outlook will be, living in a sick socialist paradise. You will see it on the street, see it on TV and hear it on the radio. For me, I'd have to get enough money that I could bail out in less five years max and never have to work again. When we moved from IL to IN a few years ago I just felt better breathing free air. Sure, some NWI pols are ding dongs, but they are boy scouts compared to the crooks in IL. And you will have Boxer and
Feinstein for your senators! Not my decision to make, but I would thing there must be something better for you between IN and CA. Its a big country. Good luck with it.

True... California would be great if it weren't for the people. I bear no ill will to the sequoias, mountains or black sand beaches. :)

Well, sometimes we have to do what we have to do. You can't reproduce what you had when you make a move. You just need to adapt to the culture(not agree or become part of it) and find new things to do.

I say I would not move to CA but that is because in my field(sales) I wouldn't make enough to offset the high cost of living out there and things would have to be really bad in this country if I couldn't find a sales job somewhere else.

Chicago is out for me also. I have turned down dozen's of jobs that required me to either live or travel the Chicagoland area.

I wish you the best of luck out there. If it was me, I'd either sell or ask a family member to hold my "illegal" firearms, take what I can for personal defense and take up some new hobbies. You may be able to find some shotgun sports like Trap or Skeet. It may not have the tactical vibe like USPSA but shooting is shooting in my opinion.

I haven't been to CA since the 70s, back when they'd vote for Reagan. I remember it as a lovely place, but as a sprout, the 2A wasn't on my radar. I'd never go back now. I do have an aunt and some cousins out there; one of them even owns a gun store, but that's up in Redding. 10 round magazines, bullet buttons, roster of approved handguns, "may issue", yadda yadda, people that think that **** makes them safe... Some of what you have need a home?
