Wow, long time ago. I was 6 years old and shot a Marlin 39 22 rifle
built in 1945 which I still own. If I remember correctly I took down
    my first squirrel.

Late 60's. My father got his Hi-Standard Model B (and its ammo) out of it's shoe box storage for the first time since returning from WWII (it was a trainer that he sent home from California). We cleaned the ammo of its green crud and wiped down the pistol. Went across the road and did a little plinking. He remembered real quick that it is not a good idea to use a high grip. The first shot the slide sliced his thumb open.
Now if I can just talk him into firing his T-99 Arisaka Okinawa bring back.

My dads police issue pistol. I think it was a semi-auto but am not certain. Don't know the caliber. It was around 1970'ish.
I speculate on the caliber as I own a couple of his retired revolvers that are the detective 38 and his 357.

An old rusted and pitted break-over 12 guage which my Dad had inherited from his grandfather. (Lord only knows how old it was.) I shot a rabbit with it when I was 9, and it knocked me a..-over-teacups. I found out later that my Dad always put a Band-Aid around his middle finger to keep the back of the trigger guard from cutting his finger! (The funny part of it is that some scum-bag broke into our garage and stole it, several years later. Hopefully, it blew up in his face!) :):

How could I forget.................age 10, Bald Mountain state range (Michigan) my Dad handed me his M-1 Garand as I sat at a wooden picnic table. Next thing I knew I was lying on the ground behind the table with an M-1 Garand across my chest.:dunno:

7mm Mauser when I was 11! My father thought that it would teach me respect for guns. It DID! It only took an hour or so before I could feel my arm again. First pistol was a really nice Lugar next time on the range.
