My niece just called and she was in the room with my sister. She was pretty out of it, but at least we got to tell each other that we loved one another.

I'm finding some pretty big holes in my no-genny back-up power situation. Looks like it's good for about 6 hours and I was thinking more like 1 day. Laptop is more hungry than I thought it was.

This is version 1.0 and it looks like 2.0 is on the horizon soon.

There is a YouTuber named Prepper Princess. She reviews a couple of solar/ battery backup generators that I think I am going to invest in. They look like they would be handy on days like this.

Certainly on my list... I snatched an APC SmartUPS2200 from work (which I had to pound the batteries out of because they were so badly swollen) that I would like to setup with solar charging capability with much larger deep cycle batteries than it comes with, but I think before I get that far we're going to just put new factory batteries in it and use it as-is as the 2.0 setup.

I know my estimate keep jumping around here... but, by the time I fully depleat the 1.0 setup I'm probably at 8-10 hours and the 2200 should bring me almost to the goal. I would like to add some lighting though. A few candle laterns kinda sucks.

Also... If it gets much colder in here I'm going to break out a kerosene heater. It's about 61 right now. If it gets to about 58 I'm going to call it.

Nipsco now reporting 16,000 without power and those are only the reported ones (i.e., I'm the only who reported in my area, according to their map, but we're all down).

I'm wondering at what point I should consider digging the genny out. It's gonna get cool in here sooner or later.
Why have you not already done this. With 16K out you may be a while.........Brrrrr

Well... "Digging it out" means walking out to the garage, putting gas in it, and pulling the cord. :) I hear a couple of neighbors that are running now. It's still 63 in here and I keep at 67. It hasn't bled off that much heat, yet...

So, basically, I'm just not cold enough to do it yet. Odds are good that boredom may become the compelling reason once I run out of laptops though! Kinda hoping it will be bed time by then, but I'd sure like a shower first too...

Oh, and the Nipsco number is actually dropping. 13.6k now.
