Yes, but isn't there currently a 'war' on cops going on?

It's ludicrous to think that everytime a cop pulls his gun and shoots in response to a criminal's aggressive actions that the cop is somehow 'wrong' in their response?

The Criminal-in-Chief, himself, sees to that!

    +1.

Hmm, that's a lot of murders.

Have they tried simply banning guns? That seems like a common sense solution that is sure to work. :dunno:

My experience dealing with, talking to, arresting people in those extremely poor areas, like Gary where I spend most of my time, is that its very much as Maslow described. These people are trying to simply survive. They will never get above the bottom of the pyramid, maybe join a gang and feel like they belong. Its not that they don't have values, they just don't share the same values as we do. They value those things that will help them survive, like making money, any way they can. There is no family structure to help survive. The rule of law as we know it only works when it doesn't contradict basic survival. In those areas its very much the law of the jungle. Only the strong, the sneaky, the ruthless can survive.

No way, I hate the 3 strikes law. The mope has 2 strikes already, commits a "minor" law violation. Knows that it's his third strike, decides to not leave any witneses. He's already going away for good, might as well try to cover his tracks and kill the witness. California has seen this law of unintended consequences in action. It's not the solution we need.

How about one strike? And no, I don't mean that every crime deserves a life sentence but for crying out loud, they need to serve the FULL sentence. No early out for good behavior (because let's face it, that ship has sailed or they wouldn't be in prison to begin with). No early out for getting their GED or a college degree, whatever. If they want to go that route, great! They'll be better prepared (perhaps) to live a law abiding life AFTER they serve their full sentence. No need for parole boards, since nobody gets out early = cost savings.

If a thug is killed by another thug and nobody really cares, did it really happen?
It's been said that "Whoever destroys a life destroys a world". In this case a world of violence and evil--but they weren't born that way and it's a tragic waste.

The worst part is that they don't just kill each other, in which case, better them than us.

    Wow. Threadus resurrectus.....

Michigan is north of Indiana. Illinois is west of Indiana.

If you are trying to get to the City of Chicago, you need to travel west where Illinois is, not Michigan. Detroit is the big city in Michigan

And living proof that even uncle Kirk can get caught up in the trees and be bored stupid.

    ^^^^^ THIS ^^^^^

I lived in California for ten years spanning enactment of the 3-strikes law and its consequences. Prosecutors went crazy with it, making it a game to see who could get the most 3-strikes "lifer" convictions, as if there was an enormous prize for the highest score. They were creatively stacking on felony charges to get a "3-strikes life without possibility of parole" sentence from a single trial. IMVHO it served no useful purpose as it didn't measurably diminish or deter crime, and filled prisons to complete overflow very quickly. As cited above, numerous criminals in fear of a "3rd strike life without parole" conviction didn't quit crime, they murdered all the witnesses. Numerous instances of what might have been a convenience store armed robbery became a convenience store armed robbery with a first degree murder.

Voters were in no mood to raise state taxes to build more prisons or pay a single dime more than they had been for the increasing prison populations. The overcrowding was so bad the federal courts stepped in and started managing the prison populations for the state. It's why Bad Girl Lindsay Lohan spent a month under house arrest, and only a couple handfuls of days (on at least one occasion just five hours) in jail instead of the several months at a whack the judge kept sentencing her her to.

I'm not sure how large of an impact this will have, but Trump's ATF is sending in 20 agents to help them with their murder epidemic. The intent is to help them with to solve shootings and help track down gun traffickers. Chicago has a lot of problems beyond this specific set, like their criminal catch-and-release policies, but this seems to be a step in the right direction.

At least this seems like it will be more productive than Obama's Justice Dept solution that analyzed the situation and decided that the problem was the police department rather than the criminals.
