Those are very nice. My Dad had one, it was super warm, wind and snow proof.

    Perspective:
Yep, today $1500 is a lot of money for A coat, one of several in your closet, especially compared to cheaper Chinese polyester ones.
For our grandpas, when it was THE coat one wore from October till March, pretty much for most of your adult life — that would be pretty reasonable.

So times you get lucky. When in fishers there is a couple of thrift stores I stop by when out. Normally nothing to buy but every once in a while there is a gem. (Some in the community do have nice extra things)

A few years ago I stopped by and there was an old leather bomber jacket. Put it on and it fit well. Already broken in and old. Nice shape over 100 dollars (maybe the highest priced item in the store) so I put it back. I left spun up the road got my fishing permit for the year and said to myself I am going back and getting the bomber jacket.
You guessed it gone. Maybe 45 minutes passed sometimes someone else gets lucky.
I did get a nice old wool overcoat a few years ago in the same store which matches my suit well but the bomber jacket would have been used so much more.

I would love one. Unfortunately I hate to think how it would hold up to animals and stock work. Carhartt stuff sometimes only lasts a few years. Chase animals through briars or have little ones send nails into a really nice jacket would really get me upset.

I have 3 winter jackets. A leather one gifted to me. My nearly dead carhartt imitation. And my almost new (1 year of minimal use) tractor supply brand jacket.

Those are some nice coats for sure and they look plenty warm.
I've never been a coat wearer, a thick pull over hoodie with a Carhartt vest on the coldest days and base layers. Never did like that bundled up feeling.

Anything I buy anymore is meant to be multi purpose. I still have old suits & khakis( probably don't fit anymore) , I know the dress shirts I have still fit. I doubt I would ever spend that much on a coat/jacket that some non working GQ magazine cover model is wearing. Show me hard work being done in clothing & holding up to the wear & tear and I will buy. The only way to truly stay worm is layers, layers, and layers. I damn near guarantee you will not find too many millionaires purchasing these overpriced coats or even overpriced boots/shoes/bags/wallets/purses.

I have a north face parka from the bargain cave that says layers are not always the answer

I am a self-proclaimed coat snob. I have numerous coats for different situations. I have a nice cowhide leather jacket but find I don't wear it much, it is more for special occasions. Those lambs hide (and the buffalo hide too) look nice.

This was interesting, they explain cost differences in the coats.

FYI, I love sheepskin and wool products. I have no affiliation with them and in fact just found the site yesterday.

One of the warmest jackets I have is a black leather jacket made by Sig for the Swiss or German Police! It is made of a thick black leather and has a heavy
Zipper and snaps in the front. Being made by Sig it also has a built in holster on the inside! I sorta lucked into it from a guy selling them at the 1500 about 10 years ago. I have never gotten cold when I wear it.
I have an assortment of flight jackets and one of the civilian copies I have has a Thinsulate liner and is made of a nice supple leather. It’s my main go to winter jacket. I found it in a Pawn Shop for $15!
For a good leather/Nomex/Nylon flight/bomber jacket check out US Wings. They make jackets for the military and also a lot of movies.

I am changing my minimalist attitude slightly and have been buying clothing with the goal of having enough when I retire that I don't need to buy much after that point.

One of those coats would be nice, but I would most likely never open my wallet that much.

I tend to shop sales of middle quality stuff. I'm not hard on my clothing so there's that.

I too am more about layering than one bulky piece of clothing. I do have a Land's End down parka that I bought a couple decades ago that I call my "don't get cold" coat. If I put that on, I am warm no matter the weather. I wore it on top of Pikes Peak last winter and it kept me warm up there.

Clothing like the Overland stuff would be a great gift from a rich family member of maybe if you hit it big at the casino.

Maybe I'll add one to the secret santa thread. :):
