My dad is now lost in Alzheimers. The most important things he ever said to me.....

"You can judge the character of a man by watching how he deals with someone who is weaker than he is."

"I love you".....how I would love to hear that again.

"Don't ever judge a person by the group that they belong to but by the content of their character."

    "Think for yourself"

"I see said the blindman" corny I know, but I wish I could hear him say it again. :)

Mine too! Wow, has it really been 22 years?
My dad didn't get to see me become a father, and a grandfather. He would have loved telling me: "See, I told you so!" lol

Get up and get after it.

If I have to tell you again, I won't be using words.

You try that again and you and me both are going to the hospital. You to get my foot out of your *** and me to get my shoe back.

"the lone ranger on a fast moving horse will never see it from 31". He used to tell me that when he would help me on a project and I was stressing about making something perfect.

I know that this is supposed to be an "our father's advice to us" thread, but I kinda like the one the saying that I came up with for my son since he is a prodigious talker:

"Son, you've got two ears and one mouth. That means that you're supposed to listen twice as much in life as you talk."

At 12 y.o., he fails to grasp the significance of this.

Blue Tile, that's a pretty good one.

My dad used to always say:

"Always look your coach/teacher/elders/_____/ in the eye when they talk to you."

And, since he was a pastor, and therefore a "preacher," he gave me some good advice about public speaking.

"Tell them what you're going to tell them; then tell them; then tell them what you just told them. That way they might just remember what you said."

jblomenberg, that is another area that I am still working on with my son. He doesn't make consistent eye contact when talking to anyone older than he is, he doesn't like to say the word "yes", preferring a small head nod or "yeah", and shoulder shrugs for when he is supposed to say the word "no".

From my military days: "Speak up and answer like you got a pair, boy!"
