    I think we called them "Duck and Cover" drills. "When you see the flash..." Elementary school - Yep, remember those. Odd thing was we lived in a part of NE Indiana where the closest thing worth nuking was some 40 miles away. Back in the day, that didn't make much difference.

    Grew up right by the Allisons plants and Navel Avionics is here as well. Indy was like 6th on the nuke list.

    Yes, the were duck and cover drills.

    Duck and cover! Yeah we had NAC, Eli Lilly, the Chrysler foundry, Allison Transmission, the refinery (that pentane flame was awesome on a dark and stormy night) later on Dow. We were a serious target, we would've been MIRVed seriously.

    There are still some old nike bases in northwest Indiana in lake and Porter counties. One outside of Portage is a paintball range called Blast Camp.

    I also remember all the "fallout shelter" signs on a lot of the buildings downtown...
