To me the 3rd gen Smith autos are some of the finest semi autos you can get!
I myself have had I think four...first was a Smith & wesson 4006, then a 5906, then another 5906 with adjustable sights, and now a 4516-2. I would really like to find a 3913 LS addition to give to my g/f and for my occasional carry. :D

But yeah, like I said they are very nice guns. They have some weight with the all steel frame, but the aluminum frame variant such as the 5903 or the 3913 are much lighter.
One benefit though to the heavy weight makes recoil pretty much non existent. Mags are pretty easy to come by, and generally inexpensive when bought used. Plus being they are stainless steel makes them pretty much rust proof.:D

The only one I own at present is either a 1076 or 1086, can't remember. It's an all SS 10mm. S&Ws usually have decent triggers and will feed most ammo. I might put this one in the classifieds soon.

hey there mark, long time no see! If it's a 1086, I think it should be double action only like the 5946 in 9mm. If it's a 1076, then it has a spurless hammer, along with a decocker set up similar to the Sig Sauer P series.

Yeah, I got it on trade a while back and just haven't looked at it. I've had several other Smith autos though. I've just got back on the boards lately. Hope all is well with you...

Couldn't stand it and had to go look. It's a 1066! 10mm, DA/SA. Ambi safety, no decocker, 3 dot fixed sights, 9 shot 10mm. Very clean gun. Lol....

I think the 4506 has a longer slide and barrel. Would it be the 4566? I haven.t messed with Smith autos in a while. During the years I've owned a few of them and they all worked well. I always wanted a 745 but never managed to get one. I have a Model 41 but that's a whole different ball of wax!;)

Yeah I think you are right, it must be more or less like the 4566, as the 4506 is a bit longer. Yeah, as I said too..I really wanna find a LS 3913, along with a mint 5946.

Haha I always thought the 41 looked like something out of Star Wars. :D

Well man that 41 shoots like something from Star Wars! Very accurate and pleasant to shoot. I'd love to have a 52 to go with my Colt Mid Range but since my surgery I've been broke. I want to go shoot this 10mm sometime too. The last one I had, a 1076, shot great. I remember watching Don Johnson on Miami Vice, yes I'm that old, shooting what was supposed to be a Bren 10 but was a 4506 and then a 1006. He might have started with the Bren and had so much trouble with it they switched to the Smith. Can't recall exactly. But back on track... The 3rd Gen S&Ws are great and don't get the credit they deserve.

Yeah I have never fired a 10mm so I can't really comment on it. But I imagine it would be pretty vicious in the recoil department unless the gun is as heavy as one of the S&W's mentioned above! As for the Bren 10 from what I read on wiki movie guns, they used a Bren 10 at the beginning but they switched to different guns because throughout the series the Bren 10 was discontinued, and they pulled it from the show, for not wanting to use a gun not in production anymore. Or so I read.

But yeah, I will agree once again! S&W 3rd gens are fantastic weapons and don't get good feedback as they deserve. I know a few who don't like them strictly because of their weight alone.

The Smiths handle the recoil of the 10mm fairly well. Not nearly the muzzle whip of my G20, although the G29 shoots better than both! I like the Smith b/c you can shoot their auto pistol and the 610 revolver from the same manufacturer as well. The revolvers are fun plus you can shoot the .40 Short & Weak out of them b/c they use moon clips! Here I am getting off track again. Sorry to the OP....
