I'm looking at getting a 22LR semi auto handgun and wanted everybodys thoughts on a good one. I know a lot of you will think I'm crazy, but I had a Walther P22 and didn't like it at all.

I'm happy with my GSG1911. I also like the conversion kit I got for my SIG P228, if you happen to already have a SIG laying around. Both are very competent "plinkers", and serve the purpose of providing good training for my EDCs.

For a super-accurate "target" .22 you're probably going to want to look at a High Standard, a Hammerli, maybe the S&W 41?

if you dont mind buying expensive 22lr ammo, sig mosquito. i have one and absolutely love it. it only eats cci mini mags though, so that is the one downside.

I'm quite happy with my Ruger SR22 pistol. However, depending on what you didn't like about the P22, you might not like the SR22 either.

New Sig mosquito comes with multiple springs now including one for bulk ammo (lower velocity) and it works great in mine firing Walmart federal bulk.

I have a Ruger target model and it is a great gun, just pay close attention if you get one and remove the back lock pin, it must be properly reinstalled or it will only allow you to pull the bolt back a half an inch.

Colt or Kimber Conversion Unit for your 1911, if ya have one.
I'm still waiting to find a CZ Kadet but I own and shoot all of the above, well except for the Sig 1911 that I traded, and they all work well. I've had a couple Walther P22s and they were fine but HATED the Mosquito I had. :twocents:

I had a S&W 22a. It was a great pistol, not picky about ammo, and very accurate. I kick myself for getting rid of it.

I think you would be happy with the Ruger Mk series or the Browning Buckmark either one. They are both quality lines.

    S&W MP 22, accurate, dependable.

Just bought one of these. Excellent accuracy. Great fit in the hand. Can't comment on dependability because I just bought it and have only put 200 rounds through it.

The MP 22 is a good training pistol. Far better than the S&W 22A, which is a target pistol.

If you want a training .22, get the MP 22; if you want a target pistol, get the 22A.

BTW, both run cheap Federal and Remington without difficulty. Both have the occasional FTFire, but I think that is a function of the ammo, not the guns. The MP will occasionally FTFire and when i work the slide nothing is ejected. Some online comments indicate this may be a function of the mag allowing the cartridges to double up in the mag. Still, I like the MP 22.
