Opinel barrel lock knives have been around for a very long time, they can range from utilitarian to custom works of art. The two in today's throwback pic represent the just two points of of the size spectrum. The small Opinel is a No 3, with a blade that measures 1 1/2 inches, the large is a No 13 with a 9 inch blade. I have owned several of the more average sizes as well, with their simple barrel lock they made great camping knives when I was growing up. I also own a set of the Cold Steel Twists, a modern take on the design.

How big is the 13? Well my hands aren't really small...
