The irony here is that many in the tech sector, somehow, believe that they are the "counterculture". They think "liberal" equates to "rebel". Obviously, at this point, nothing could be further from the truth.
So, when they see the corporate types doing standard corporate type stuff...all of a sudden, they are upset. Simple as that. They thought they were the free-thinkers and that's what their company fostered. Truth is, they were never really free-thinkers and the last time Apple was, Reagan was in the White House. Innovative? Sure. "Counter-culture"...well, no- they are very much in the middle of the current culture- one they helped create.
Adam Carolla is a keen observer of trends. He talks about "what happens when you become 'The Man'?" In other words- you thought you were pushing back against The Man- well, you're The Man.
This whole "we'll track down the leakers", to me, makes all the sense in the world and should have been utterly predictable to everyone as confidentiality, for a variety of reasons, is pretty important to a tech company, and really, any company. However, when people who think they are "counter-culture" because they can wear t-shirts and sandals to work and promote their leftist causes realize that they only LOOK counter-culture and are deeply involved in supporting the current culture...they are working FOR "The Man"....I guess it's a little shocking.
