I recently decided that the Savage 64 that I got on sale at Bass Pro shops in August was not what I wanted. I wanted to build another Ruger 10/22 because after shooting it it was not as nice as my 10/22. And to top it off I picked up a new bull barrel and Hogue OM stock at Cabela's Bargain Cave for a decent price. So I decided to trade it in for another 10/22 at Cabelas to build up. I was offered $75 for my Savage, I said OK as I only had $109 in it plus a scope and extra magazine. I decided to keep the cheap scope for my next project and sell the extra mag to a friend that bought his Savage the same time I did. Still not a great deal, but I had my mind set on another Ruger...
Well, A few days after making the trade for a new 10/22 I walked in to Cabelas to pick up a some ammo and targets as I was going to take my new gun to the range to test is out before making any changes and I decided to look at the used rifles. To my surprise I saw my old Savage on the rack for $149, I thought "Wow, they had a hard time giving me $75 for a new gun with the box and are very proud of it!" They are asking $40 more for it than I paid, but told me they only cost $75 new.
Don't get me wrong, I got a decent deal on my new rifle with the coupon I got in the mail and all, but I would have never expected them to list my old/new rifle for more than I gave for it.
    I'm just sayin.....

    Just sayin?

Sounds like what stores that like to make money and stay in business do every day.
You were happy with the resale value, someone will likely be happy on the repurchase, and the store will keep folks employed. What's not to like?

I'm not trying to be rude, but help an older guy out as I hear this more and more.:fogey:
When someone ends a story in "I'm just sayin...", does that mean they have dismissed their own story as as trivial and do not anticipate any reply or comment? That's how it strikes me. If that's true 1) I'm guilty of replying and 2) why bother "sayin" it?:dunno:

You could of always heard there offer and sold it here on the forums when you got your post count up. Probably could of made someones day. Other than that the markup seems right.

Ever trade in a car? You get nothing and a bunch of excuses and the next week it is on the lot for 2-4X what they paid you. That is business. If I had a complaint about it I wish they would just be honest but most people can't handle that.

+ This. I bet that gun wouldn't have lasted a day with a $100 price tag on it here.

Yeah, retail storefronts cost a ton to operate. Staff + tax for employing em, lights, etc... all add up. You really can't afford to list something you bought for less than 20-30% markup unless your moving it out within a few days.

I guess it was the way the gun "specialist" spoke of the Savage as not worth much if anything and only costing $75 new and then seeing it there marked up more than it's worth or could be purchased new for that struck me as odd.
Just the price of doing business.

I have seen some good deals there that I wish I would have jumped on (a certain Norinco SKS sporter that takes AK mags for $275 that I saw there recently comes to mind).
That's OK, I'm really happy with my new 10/22 and can't wait for the rest of the parts to get here.....

I'm just sayin = I am not passing judgement, I'm just venting about the situation and no one needed to reply although I enjoy reading others opinions if they take up interest to do so.
