I have searched the respective state codes and just want to make sure I understand this properly.
As long as the firearm is unloaded and not stored with loaded magazines and not at direct access to the operator it is legal. Or in my case unload my magazines lock the case and store the ammo in a separate case all in the trunk.

Here is a link to the specific codes that I found.

    What WC said.

Loaded rifles/shot guns in a vehicle may get you in trouble with the TN DNR if I remember correctly.

All of these things rolled up into one. Put the weapon on safe, take the mag out, store the ammo in a container, put it all in the trunk and drive your happy butt to TN. With your original LTCH in the front seat, that is.

Even without a LTC do like you said.
Secure them in your trunk w/o ammo....if your nervous you can always go as far as field stripping them.

    Have a good trip.

Here in Indiana there was a time not too long ago that you couldn't even transport a handgun to the range without a neutered permit or a full LTCH. That law of course has now been changed but what about Kentucky and Tennesee ?
