It really will depend how far you need to pull in signals. Powered antennas at the tv work great within twenty miles or so. If farther you need something bigger…

In Lafayette it takes a really good antenna to successfully enjoy Indy stations. When we had analog transmitters, a weak station was still watchable with a little snow in the picture. Digital is all or nothing, it just locks up from too many missing pieces of data.

I have a small powered antenna in the attic that gets the Lafayette station just fine.
Other than local news the Mrs watched pretty much everything on the internet. Of course that is now $62/month.

How far are you from a major city?

I used a 6' tv cable wire, cut off one end and split them 180⁰

Works well in indy area for a garage tv.
I was spoiled when I lived 8 miles south of downtown Dallas, I had dozens of english TV stations and about that many Spanish stations, all with rabbit ears in the apartment.

About 50 miles north of indy. Really dont want much more than a ballgame while working in the barn but I would like to do something good. A wall mounted outdoor device is what I am in the market for, IF it’s worth it.

Driving the direct I-65 route, I am 61 miles to Castleton mall. I do not think 50 miles would be close enough for a compact antenna. I tried a compact antenna when I lived in Kokomo and it did not work very well. That was a low sitting single story house with large trees all around. Maybe if you can get it raised above the roof.
