Seems the providers real concern is the cost to implement versus any privacy concerns. Real hard to balance the need for individual privacy versus to the public good in gather information on criminal activities. Would using the same standards for Internet as the current landline wiretaps protect or at least maintain the Status quo of Individual Privacy?

In the case of Blackberry's and other smart phones they just want to be able to do the same thing that Saudi Arabia and the Arab states are trying to do. Gotta keep up with your friends. Of course a good segment of the population will go right along with this, since it's for "national security", using the mindset that "if you aren't doing anything wrong, what are you worried about". Wonder if the gop will get behind this one, like they did for Dubya? Of course the dems are all for warrantless wiretapping, now that Obama is the one doing it.

I agree. Does anyone believe that they dont already watch your internet and cell use? I was told if you use certain key words, your conversation will be flagged and recorded for review.
They may well do that, but that's not what this is about. They want key escrows for encrypted communications. That way they can decrypt what you send when they want to.

seems to me the govt knows they have been cheating on us and now they know we know and wanna see how much we know, and what we are gonna do about it.

what are they preparing for? they are trying to get a leg up.
