I've been notified that this act is about to expire and the antis are really trying to get major organizations on board to extend it. Supposedly the organizations include NASCAR, NFL, NBA... Is this law a threat to our rights? Is this something that we should fight or should we decide to let it go and choose another battle?

I remember sometime in the 80’s, the panic in the media over Glock “plastic guns” that would breeze straight through airport metal detectors.
It stemmed from the now famous Christmas movie classic, Die Hard 2, in which Willis (John McClane) states that a completely fictional "Glock 7" made of porcelain and totally undetectable by metal detectors or X-ray is pulled on him in an airport. Congress goes apesh1t bonkers over it after their telephone switchboards light up from people thinking it's a real pistol, and passes the Undetectable Firearms Act. Been renewed several times and will expire on March 8th if it's not renewed again. Time to communicate with Senators and Congressman that it must not be renewed. In addition the WOKE Gun-grabber Dems are trying to make it permanent with amendments to make it incredibly draconian . . . to expand it to completely 100% prohibit all personally made firearms (to encompass the vile evil Ghost Guns). They're also trying to sneak language into other bills with bipartisan support to do this. Unlike Indiana, you can tack on completely unrelated BS to a bill in Congress and slide it through.

The Undetectable Undetectable Firearms Act Strategy -- hiding it in some massive omnibus bill running thousands of pages.

Edited to correct movie title ;)

It's actually from Die Hard 2, the one at the airport. Please don't sully the original Die Hard by assigning this awful line to it.

Wrote both Senators and Congressman telling them they must let it expire.

    Text to Congressman:
    "Dear Honorable XXXXX,
The Undetectable Firearms Act of 1988, as it currently stands, is due to expire on March 8th this year. I implore you to allow it to expire, and to urge your fellow Congressmen to allow its expiration. There is no technical reason for it to be renewed, much less amended to expand its scope or made permanent. Its origin dates to the introduction of the "Glock 17" and its polymer frame (with metal slide and barrel), and hyped up fears they could be smuggled through metal detectors, especially in airports. This has never been true, but it resulted in terrified citizens lighting up Congressional and White House switchboards after groups such as Handgun Control, Inc. (later became Brady Campaign) went on the warpath seeing it as yet one more step toward banning all handguns. Metal detectors and X-ray machine technology has dramatically improved along with the algorithms used to ID banned weapons. There is no such thing as a working, functional "undetectable firearm" and never has been.
The Democrats not only desire to renew it, they want to make it permanent with draconian amendments expanding its scope that would effectively ban all personally made firearms, and ban all private gun sales. I expect they will attempt to do this as part of a large omnibus appropriation bill by sneaking it in and demanding immediate passage. The most recent Bipartisan Safer Communities Act has created enough of a debacle with BATFE now running wild with rulemaking well beyond what was ever intended or "promised" by Democrats. Once the camel's nose is under the tent, they will jam the entire camel in by hook or by crook as quickly as possible using Executive Orders and Executive Agency Rulemaking which takes years in the Federal Courts to get struck down as unconstitutional. There is never any "compromise" with them. The Senate majority led by Senator Schumer in particular has been attempting to slide in numerous reprehensible provisions to desirable appropriations legislation, holding the desirable portions hostage to them.
It's my expectation that you and your staff will diligently review all pending legislation to ensure there is no renewal of this Act. It MUST be allowed to sunset and permanently die. Failure is NOT an option.
    Sincerely,
    [My Name]"

Messages to the Senators was nearly identical with "Dear Senator [Name]" salutation instead of "Honorable" -- and "fellow Senators" in the first sentence. Note that Die Hard 2 and its "Glock 7" was released in 1990, two years after the bill was passed and signed into law. The increasing popularity of the Glock 17 had the predecessor Org to Brady fanning the flames of abject terror of endless plane hijackings in their effort (then) to ban all handguns. They switched over to "Assault Weapons" in 1994 when they realized they'd never get traction on a handgun ban, resulting in the 1994-2004 AWB they want desperately to resurrect.

Have YOU written to your Senators and Congressmen yet?

Created out of whole cloth by that a-hole at the Baltimore Sun.
IIRC it was picked up and part of Brady et al. in their crusade to ban all handguns . . . until they abandoned their handgun strategy and pivoted to "Assault Weapons" realizing they could get more traction going after them.
