I've got a friend who is doing this gig in Richmond. He stated to me that they were going to be issued Sigs. Had to do some training as well, but not sure how much or what type.

The Soc. Sec. office in Owensboro has armed guards. The clients are seperated from the clerks by a wall with locked doors and tall bulletproof? windows a mere 6 in. wide and a slot at the bottom barely big enough to slip a card or paper thru. Guess they're getting scared of us old farts too.

"The problem with Socialism is that eventually you run out of other peoples money." - Margaret Thatcher

When the money runs out ... see riots in France, UK, Ireland, etc.

    Riots in France? :n00b:
Dont believe all you see on the news.
I live in France and I never seen any riot but on TV.
Something happen in one single city with a little group of person and when you watch international news channels (mainly US ones) they make it sound like its civil war in the whole country. :D

I refuse to believe that a Frenchman would lie.

Am I the only American who simply can't stomach the French? Call me a xenophobe, a jingoist, or just a jerk, but I simply cannot abide by a people who SELL JEWS to protect themselves without Hitler even asking for such. That's right VICHY. Willful collaboration.

I know, I know, off-topic, crass, ignorant. I don't care. Give me an infraction. I hate the French...almost as much as I hate Germans.

Indiana Department of Workforce Development IS a State agency, it is also backed by Federal dollars. It is NOT a private company contracted to the State.

Trespass is not the only violation you may possibly be looking at if someone decides to press charges. Local ordinances will apply on government property whether owned or leased by the government.

Obongo promised we will all be taken care of by big brother!!!

    :D

Some people are really getting desperate, and the sad thing is if they take out their frustrations on the people at the unemployment office, they are taking it out on the wrong people.

i cannot speak for local ordinances, but state law says:
(also note, i am not a lawyer, so this is not legal advice)
    IC 35-43-2-2
Criminal trespass; denial of entry; permission to enter; exceptions
    Sec. 2. (a) A person who:
    (1) not having a contractual interest in the property, knowingly
or intentionally enters the real property of another person after
having been denied entry by the other person or that person's
    agent;
    (2) not having a contractual interest in the property, knowingly
or intentionally refuses to leave the real property of another
    person
after having been asked to leave by the other person or
    that person's agent;
    http://www.in.gov/legislative/ic/code/title35/ar43/ch2.pdf

so, in theory (which is where you will need a lawyer for legal advice), you cannot trespass on state property since it does not belong to a "real person", AND since you have a contractual interest in the property (applying for unemployment in this instance). this may or may not apply to schools and libraries. now to my knowledge, this theory has not been tested 1) no one has challenged it, or 2) officers have not arrested for it.
DISCLAIMER: city ordinances may include govt property in their trespassing ordinances

Charged with what? :dunno: Treaspassing? One is not breaking any Indiana Law by going into the unemployment office with a gun. If you have an LTCH.

Here is the issue, which I don't think has ever been tested. It is true that signs that simply say "No guns" don't hold any water. However, signs are a means of communication under the trespassing statue, so it could be argued that a sign that states "Entry into this property is hereby denied to anyone carrying a firearm" could be enough notification.

According to my attorney (who is actually a defense attorney, not an ambulance chaser or bankruptcy specialist, or anything else unrelated to criminal defense), signs denying entry would typically be individual in nature, and say something like

"the following people are barred from the premises:

    jbombelli
    Indy317

    etc."

But you bring up an interesting point, that I also brought up with him, and he agreed it was an interesting idea, and that it was as far as he knew untested. It's probably untested because nobody has ever seen that particular verbiage on a sign, let alone violate it and be cited.

I guess the next logical question is...

Would YOU arrest/cite based on a sign with that particular verbiage, and no other request/refusal to leave the premises?

I don't think I would outright arrest anyone, but it would depend on the sign, how big it was, what the establishment was (because most bars I have been to always have a 'No weapons' sign), what the suspect stated to me, and other factors that I'm not even sure I could think of right now. Even if the suspected trespasser admitted to seeing the sign, this would be one of those cases to just type up the facts in a probable cause and let the prosecutor's office decide if they think they have a case.

I believe Work One isn't state owned, I am thinking its a privatized corporation. They do have signs up, so if caught, you will most likely be asked to leave. When I was using the center trying to appeal my unemployment and look for a job a few months back, I knew the guard in anderson. He was already carrying(july/aug) and he knew I usually was as well. Didn't seem to mind;)

Edit: But as this streak drags on, and the govt keeps extending benifits, when they get cut off, there will prolly be a bunch of beyond ticked off people who lost their meal ticket. Basically work one is gearing up for this eventuality

My local Work One office in on private property. It also houses the SSA Hearings and Appeals Office. The building is posted no firearms but carries no weight of law. The only place you cannot carry is in the SSA office itself. The rest of the building is OK. Just because there is a government office does not mean you cannot carry. It is shared jurisdiction in the building not proprietary. And yes there is an armed building security guard and an armed federal contract security guard solely for the SSA office.
