Their flight status function on the website has real-time mapping of the plane's location. Mr88GT is coming back from a week-long trip across the pond and the kids got the biggest kick out of watching his "plane" on the computer.

And I am thrilled to be getting a co-parent back.

It is really cool that you can track not only airline flights, but private flights if you know the tail number and they have an active transponder.

As for 370, Flight Aware did track it until the transponder was turned off. While that is normal for over water flights for the flight path to go from actual versus estimated and then back to real when the flight is reacquired by ATC, the path of 370 just stopped.

The only trip overseas I've taken was over to China. I don't know if Northwest had a similar feature or not but they did have a realtime readout in the passenger compartment...When you're in a hurry to get home, that stupid little dot on that map moves awfully slow.

Cooler yet with an app like FlightRadar 24 (Flightradar24.com - Live flight tracker!) you can use the camera on your phone to look at an aircraft flying overhead and it will tell you the flight information for it. Origination, Destination, Airplane model, altitude, speed, etc.

    Very cool.

That is pretty cool. It's amazing all the FedEx flights headed towards Memphis right now.
