A long time ago, when I was on Active Duty, one of our WOs got blasted drunk and ended up in a stranger's house (thinking it was his own). I would be justified in shooting someone who surprised me under those circumstances, but I wouldn't want it to be on my conscience. I'll make an attempt to identify an intruder before I neutralize a perceived threat - but I don't have minor children in a separate location to worry about and my wife will be right next to me in bed, most times, so I won't have to worry about her whereabouts.
