I am building my first AR on a budget. This will be used as a range toy and if a SHTF scenario ever comes up. I already have a MOE PSA lower kit built on an Anderson lower. I plan on shooting about 50-100 rounds every month so I probably would never wear it out. I have selected two options that I like PSA 16" Mid-length Freedom Stainless MOE BLK - Without BCG or Charging Handle - 48199 or PSA 16" CHF 5.56 NATO Mid-length Premium MOE BLK Upper - without BCG or Charging Handle - 507440. I know the FN barrel is much better and would last forever but it isn't the best for accuracy. The stainless "SHOULD" give better accuracy but it won't last as long and isn't as good as a 410 SS. There isn't much more info on the SS kit but it usually runs $100 cheaper at $219. That saving would get me the BCG and have a functional rifle that much quicker. Any advice would be appreciated.

My recommendation would be this one PSA 16" CHF 5.56 NATO Mid-length Premium MOE BLK Upper - without BCG or Charging Handle - 507440 because I have one of them. Its a super high quality item that I personally have now over 1200rds through as its on my Run-N-Gun carbine so it gets thrashed on a lot. My advice would be to spend a few bucks extra now an get the CHF an be done with it, it will last you a life time. I don't have any good or bad things to say about their stainless complete uppers, other than Im sure they would be more than sufficient for what your wanting to do with it. But the other one is what I have actual experience with. Good luck on your build!

I also have the second one and it'll shoot under 2 MOA. If you're just going to put a red dot on it or shoot with irons, get the CHF. Unless you free float the barrel, upgrade the trigger, put a scope on it, and shoot match quality ammo I don't think the SS will shoot much better for you.

I agree with all the posts above.
You said this was your FIRST build, it's addictive and more will follow so don't think this to death. I'd suggest a standard battle rifle first, then build your long range rig down the road.
I remember when I had only one.....................a long, long time ago.
Good luck and enjoy every minute of every build.
