Anyone have any odd shipments through UPS lately? I've got two packages, one from Georgia and the other from Michigan. One was transferred to USPS in Missouri, and the other is in town already, but also got shipped to the post office.

Something up with UPS anyone knows about?

    This is weird.

No, it's not weird. It's their "Smart Post" shipping which uses the USPS to deliver the last mile. UPS gets the package to your local post office or hub and then the USPS takes it to your door. Makes for much cheaper shipping, although it takes a little bit longer.

IIRC, Smart Post is a shipping option with Amazon and some other major retailers. You can still choose two-day or faster shipping, though.

The last two FedEx packages I received were also delivered by the USPS. The FedEx tracking will go up to the point that it is transferred to USPS, and then it says to "Allow one or two more days for delivery".

So, are Brown and Fedex just throwing a bone to USPS?

Not really. The idea is that USPS is going to every address everyday anyway, so they can save costs (fuel, wages, equipment) by not rolling a truck halfway across town to deliver one box. This is a company that avoids left turns to save fuel, so it makes sense to hand off low-priority deliveries to a company better-suited to handle them. It's a win for UPS and USPS and it lowers your shipping cost.
