I was there at low tide this time, it's quite impressive to see the size of the beach at low tide.

It's about 330 yards wide, that's how much distance you have to cover on wet sand from the water line to reach the beach.
That's if your landing craft made it to the water line, otherwise you might have to add 50 yards of swimming to that.

Wet sand makes it even more difficult to walk or run.

The cliff is 50 to over 100 feet high depending on the area.

It's so sad to think of the great loss of lives - the ultimate price that was paid.

You can't walk on that beach and not think about it.
I've seen historical pictures of one particular beach covered with dead bodies, on the same stop where I was standing.

Here is the English translation of the French text on the plaque.

Those "immense forces" is of course a reference to the US military.
That message was brodcasted before the US declaration of war on Germany.

Sylvain, I liked your INGO graffiiti on the fallen bunker.

I'm not usually for graffitis, especially rude ones on what are now historical landmarks but I used chalk so I figured it was ok.
It will be gone next time it rains. :)

You see a lot of love messages written with chalk all around the beach since the beach is covered with those pieces of chalk.
My backpack fell on a huge block of chalk and it now looks like I dropped 1 kilo of pure cocaine all over it. :faint:

I collected some sand from the beach. Now I need to let it dry.

I plan on getting back on D-Day, June 6th. :patriot:
Probably a trip to the local military cemetery as well to bring flowers to a fallen WW2 hero.
