And they knew what they were doing when they went over there, didn't they? They thought they had the situation under control. They didn't. Now as a result others have to be put at risk. And if the risk is so minimal, how did they get it in the first place? I'm all for getting them good treatment. I'm just not for them getting it here. Every time this government of ours thinks they have something "under control" bad things start happening. It doesn't seem to matter if it's social, economic, or medical. Lately, under our current leadership, they have the means to screw it up. We used to be able to put people on the Moon. Times change.

The gun runners in Benghazi knew what they were getting into but that didn't stop INGO from wanting to move mountains to save them.

Yeah, but I don't believe for a second that they thought they would have their asses hung out to dry for political expediency either.

As a 20 year old specialist in Bosnia, I had the good sense to know that my chain of command would have left my ass hung out to dry for political expediency.

Posted in other Ebola thread because as we know, INGO needs 5 threads on every topic.

Mount Sinai patient who traveled to West Africa tested for Ebola virus | 7online.com

Please form an orderly line and panic.

    "being tested for" :runaway:

that's the problem with Ebola, Marburg, etc... They are virusis and you have fever, sore throat, and body aches as initial symptoms. Are you going to quarantine all patients with viral syndromes? It's hard to be appropriate in screening and testing in Africa given the vague complaints these awful diseases start with.

Here at INGO, we'll do ya one better - we'll GLADLY hang your ass out to dry just for being annoying! (evil grin)

Seriously - do you really mean to say that they should have EXPECTED to be left to die? Really?

I don't think they thought the US would declare war for them.

What do you think their calls for help were? Wanting Hillary to come play tiddlywinks?

Meanwhile back at Ebola - all that they can EXPECT of their organization is to do the best that they can. And the care is CERTAINLY better over here than there.
I realize that this flies in the face of the xenophoobic "if it ain't within our borders it can go to hell" INGO crowd, but we owe our people the best reasonable effort - especially when they were there on a humanitarian mission. It's not like they were extreme skiing down a mountain of camel :poop: on the Iran border or something. They were there to do good. Just like we owed our people in Benghazi our best effort to get them out. For the record, I DON'T think that the situations are equivalent, but I happen to think that we owed a decent effort in both cases. One out of duty to our people in state dept and military service, and the other out of humanitarian consideration for one of our citizens. In the ebola case it happened. In the other case it didn't.

Benghazi was a whole different ball game. Chris Stevens was asking for increased security for months before the attack happened. As much as I feel for what happened to him and his colleagues, he should have set a deadline for them to provide it. If not then go. It's as simple as that. He knew his life was in danger long before he was killed. He posted on a gaming forum just hours before he died saying, "I hope I don't die tonight." I'm NOT saying it was his fault, but honestly, how much danger do you have to be in before you act on your own, and remove yourself from the situation? It's not like that embassy was a fortress.

The only parallel line you can draw between this and the Ebola crap is both of them put themselves into dangerous situations they thought they could control. Both were wrong. Stevens died, and the doctors still might. Both made the wrong call to remain where they were. Both needed others to help them. The doctors got it.......Stevens & Co. didn't.

I am intrigued. In what way was staying to help others the wrong call?

dontfeed Wow just wow. All of this is painful. Just remember ALL ANIMALS ARE EQUAL BUT SOME ANIMALS ARE MORE EQUAL THAN OTHERS. Off I go to the cave to load more ammo for zombies and ebolas and thief like criminals and murderin scum and other people that deserve it but not dragons. Dragons will burn you and make you crunchy so you will taste good with ketchup. Has anyone else noticed that the whole damn country has gone off into a ditch or is it just me ??????
