Yeah...they're testing 1911's. They already used them in Recon units previously, and now again since they're back. MARSOC and MSOR get them too, but they pretty much get to choose their gear.

I never really thought about before. Makes sense...learn something everyday, if you're paying attention.

I think any military equipment needs to be made in the US by a US company. We never know who will be our enemy at some point in time.

They can stamp whatever they want on it so long as one portion of the process was completed there. The steel came from country A, the aluminum from country B, the plastic molded in country C, all shipped to country D for assembly. There's nothing truly "Made in USA" 100% anymore. It's just cheaper for the manufacturers. A lot of firearms makers stamp their import locations on the weapon that's here in the US while they were actually made somewhere else. They can do this because simply putting that stamp on them is legally considered part of their production process.

The military will use the 1911 over some of the others primarily because of the external safety. They will not change all of their training around when they can simply get an inexpensive weapon that fits the bill already. All they consider is $$$ vs effectiveness and they don't care for plastic guns much I don't think.

HK MR556,762. HK45,HK45C and soon the P2000 are made in New Hampshire now. The frames are molded there, the slides still come from Germany.

Why? a big part of the reason is Government contracts. The HK416 (which the USMC bought) is still german made as of now.

Glock can make guns totally in the us.

The m&p 45 comes with the option for a thumb safety, no retarded grip safety, and high capacity, in a more corrosion resistant pack that requires less frequent and less skilled maintainence
