How does the US benefit from this? What to we gain? Not much I can see.

What to we lose? I can answer that. Our reputation as a country with a strong foreign policy. Our reputation as being strong on human rights. And we'll lose money. Lot's of money.

Any moneys spend there will go to prop up the Castro regime. If you stand over John Kennedy grave and listen closely you'll probably hear him rolling over in it.

Yes, our relationship with China sure sends that same message.

This is when we find out the cigars weren't as good as we've been led to believe.

It depends on what you are getting...Partagas for one is outstanding....if from the Cuban producer. Like many cigars, the same brand name is used for both Cuban produced product and non-Cuban produced product. For many, like Partagas, the Cuban product is substantially better.

By your logic you supported murder with every puff.

I'm also a big fan of child labor, because some things I own are made in China. Also socialism, because of the Russian vodka I buy.

What legitimate purpose is served by the current icy relationship between the US and Cuba?

You mean like our relationship with the Saudis? With China? With Egypt? With Saddam? With the Taliban? With Uzbekistan? Eritrea?

I'm not sure why anyone would be surprised at this action by Obama; he's shown himself to be always more willing to negotiate with tyrants than with the Republicans. Guess it appeals to his Communist roots.

When goods don't cross borders, soldiers will.

About thirty years of relations with Cuba disproves that idea. None of our troops over there (except at Guantanamo which is "ours") none of theirs over here - or much or anywhere else since the Soviets stopped bankrolling them.

What seems to be the recurring theme is cutting deals over prisoner exchanges
