Taking a trip out west and the wife wants to go to Vegas. I've never been there before, so I'm interested in hotel suggestions. I'm more interested in catching a couple good buffets and a show or two than gambling. As long as there is a good variety of slots, the wife should be happy.
New york New york is really nice, and has a lot of food choices. The staff there was especially curteous and helpful as well. I would stay there again. If you wanna see a "Vegasy" type show, catch jubilee at Ballys. It has 50 topless showgirls.
It's too widespread of question. Needs to be narrowed a bit.
You can eat the buffets and see the shows at any of them, regardless of if you are staying in that particular hotel.
What's going to nail it down here is price and location.
If you're interested in staying down town, the only real option is The Golden Nugget.
For the strip, you're going to have the really high end places like Venetian, Bellagio, Caesar's, and Mandalay Bay.
Then there are the middle of the road places like MGM, NYNY, and Harrah's.
There are also some less expensive places like Luxor, Excalibur, and Imperial Palace.
There are many others. I've made a lot of trips through Vegas. I've stayed at The Golden Nugget, The Rio, Harrah's, Bally's, Paris, MGM, and Caesar's. I would stay at any of them again. I've had good and not so good (wouldn't really classify it as "bad") trips at the same hotel. Our "go to" is the Harrah's line. Harrah's owns Caesar's Palace, Harrah's, Ballys, Rio, Imperial Palace, and Paris.
So many choices. I've spent probably TOO much time in Vegas, over the years. The Cirque du Soleil shows are fabulous, so long as you stay away from the Chris Angel one. The biggest show in Vegas is just walking down the Strip, though. Center Strip hotels are best located, if you plan to wander. Treasure Island (now called just ti) is underrated. Stay away from the Boardwalk. Mandalay Bay, Bellagio, Wynn, are all very nice, if spendy. I've got a soft spot for the Imperial Palace...it's cheap and clean, if a bit worn; but if you DO gamble they offer the best odds on table games on the Strip. Then of course there is Downtown...
We went last year for the first time and stayed at the Monte Carlo. It was nice. gambling and food was good, but if/when we go again we will stay closer to the center of the strip or downtown. If your stay on the strip make sure you take a night to go downtown. It was probably the best part of our trip.
We like Harrahs. Toby Keiths restaurant on the second floor is good. There is also a good steakhouse. Dueling pianos piano bar is a good time on the main floor. There is a large bar that is alot of fun outside in the middle of a courtyard mall of shops just outside the doors by the piano bar.
For the best buffet in town go to The Rio.
Get a cheap room at Hooters or Imperial palace. You will only be in your room for a very small amount of time anyway. Then walk/get a cab to go to a casino you want to see.
I used to go to Vegas twice a month.
IP has better location, but rooms are like a typical hotel/holiday inn. Hooters actually has decent rooms but casino is small, and the wife may not be into Hooters. Location is right across from MGM but it’s technically “off the strip” by half a block. Rooms are dirt cheap. $29 a night during the week!
Ive been several times, stayed at Circus Circus long ago, Luxor, Sahara (several times (cheap!) ). but next time we're planning on staying downtown, everything is cheaper.
And rent a car and go to Hoover Dam. It is amazing. Red Rocks canyon, just outside of Vegas is nice too. We rented a car for a day and drove around Nevada and Arizona, and even a short drive into California, just to say we went there.
Went last year and stayed at the Flamingo, would do again for sure. As for shows, we only saw one and that was KÀ by Cirque du Soleil at the MGM Grand. Totally BADASS show!
depending on your age my favorite even though it isnt on the strip is the palms. It has a younger vibe to it so it might not be your thing. the belagio buffet is good but if you go at dinner i think its 40 bucks and if you want a good steakhouse nine in the palms is also my favorite.
The wife and i went the year before last and stayed at the Flamingo $24.99 a night. We did not have any reservations,we just pulled in off the street. I would do again .
Last time I was there, Terribles had discount coupons for their buffet. Cost was about 12 bucks and the food was actually decent.
They are a little off the strip, but not far. IIRC on Flamingo, or Desert Inn Blvd, but don't hold me to that.
