PSA has been running a deal on this long enough that $299.99 might as well be their regular price.
I have two of these and are very happy with them. Is there anything better out there at this price point (or a bit more expensive) that you'd put on a 308?
At this price point, no. I have this one and 3 from the Viper line and don't feel I need to spend a bunch more money on a different brand because they do what I need them to do.
I have heard some good things about them.
Got a couple 1-8 scopes myself... but the PA versions.
Nothing but good to say about these.
They both have the ACSS reticule that is similar in design.
I try to keep a "right tool for the job" mentality. There are other optics that I would put on a 308 depending on its primary task.
My 1-8 strike eagle sits on an 18" 5.56 whose build was intended for shilouette out to 600. In which it does exceptionally well. However it has come up short rarely when shooting smaller targets with friends at long distance. I didn't blame the rifle in those instances because I was asking more of the tool than I gave it.
What I'm saying is defining the optimal job of the tool first will determine the optic needed to best fit.
I greatly prefer the FFP version of the Vortex 1-8, but will go SFP for specific purposes / needs which usually are cost centered.
Just ordered a 1-6 Vortex for the price point. For the money it will give me more capability than a red dot plus magnifier at a lower cost. I will simply treat it as a two power switchable scope, 1 and 6. A good solution for the use case and intent for the weapon.
