Bullet design has come a LONG WAY from the days when everybody knew that any snub could not produce enough velocity to expand a hollowpoint. It's not necessary to drive a bullet extremely fast anymore. I have carried a .44 Spl. snub for many years loaded with full wadcutters. They will tear flesh and bone up just fine at 800 fps. or less and rarely exhibit overpenetration.

I don't think I've ever seen wadcutters for a 45 Colt, that said I've seen 250 grain cast lead bullets out of a 45 Colt go through a deer at 20 yards.

Are wadcutters suitable for self defense?

I take it you heard that myth going around again that Wad Cutters are less likely to go through walls?

I only ask because I was in Indy Gun Bunker (used to be Pop's) not long ago and I over heard an employee telling a customer this.

Jim Cirillo seemed to think that wadcutters were the perfect ammunition for a .38 snubbie, such as a Smith 36, or a Colt Cobra/Agent/Detective Special.

the ones above traveling roughly 300fps fast in a 45 Colt will blow through a deer at 100y and it is not pretty on the other side.....
