I went to my walmart tonight to peruse the selection. When I saw the ammo case it was completely empty and had a sign on the case "Please see an associate for help with ammo" or some other nonsense. So am I supposed to be a mind reader as to what they have in stock? This makes no sense and I haven't heard of any other walmart doing this. What a crock of :poop:.

I was in the Beech Grove Wallyworld today, and their shelves were fairly well stocked - except they were out of the Federal .45ACP again.

Got half of the usual case here(other half has plywood and 1 glass slider), some 12 and 20 gauge bulk boxes on the shelves. The rest is under the counter.

The two Supercenters here in town have the locked glass cases. Some target shotshells are on regular shelves though. The small "normal" Walmart in a nearby town has all ammo on shelves behind a counter that requires help from an associate.

I was at Bloomington Wal-Mart today. Everything was still the same with a stocked ammo section. No difference there.

I need to swing by the Brownsburg WalMart anyway, so I'll look. Last time I was there all the rifle/handgun ammo was in its normal glass-front (locked) display case, and the shotshells were on a nearby shelf.

I think the Plainfield Wally World has a few rifles in a case. I haven't been there in a while, though.

I personally am boycotting Wal-Mart for all ammunition due to their complete ineptitude. On every occasion that I have been to a Wal-Mart it has been a huge long drawn out pain in the arse to get someone to open the freakin' case that the ammo is in. I don't understand how hard it is to put someone that actually has the key in the near vicinity of that dang case. It is always that someone has to find someone else or call a manager and that person never shows up and they have to make another call.

This last time that put me over the edge, I talked to the only guy close to the department (automotive), he didn't have a key so he called management, they never came, so I went to customer service. they didn't know where the guy with the key was, so they called management to meet me at the case. management never showed up. i went back to customer service, they called again. still no one showed up. eventually some random guy that worked there (not in the department or a manager) asked me if I needed help. He had the key and let me in. total time investment due to me not giving up...1 hour. how much did I save buying the "walmart special" over going to gander mountain? not enough to make the stress worth it. I will NEVER buy ammo there again. I reload my own now specifically for this reason...and that it costs a fortune to shoot .45 ACP.

The Martinsville Wal-Mart recently went from "behind the counter" to "behind a glass case" ....a giant step backward. I used to be able to find a sales associate to get some ammo in just a few minutes. It now seems that the ammo area has been abandoned, and no one is ever around who can unlock the case.

One of the guys I know at Wal-mart said they have found boxes open through out the store with shells missing out of them. So I can see where they are coming from.

Walmart has never been my favorite store but occasionally I find myself there with my family. Today I walked by the glass ammo case and saw 100 rounds of Winchester 45 ACP for $32.00. Not bad so I asked for some help, they paged a person to help me and she actually showed up pretty fast. But then told me it would be up at customer service for me.

So, whatever. When we were checking out I told the cashier that i had a box of ammo waiting in customer service. When she tried ringing it up the computer asked "is this for a handgun". I said yes. The computer said "sale denied". She called a manager over and the manager told her to just lie to it and say no. The sale was then approved.

Is there a no handgun ammo policy at Walmart that I didn't know about?
It wasn't a big deal. I got the ammo but I hate hassles because of stupid issues.

I know it may be some hassle waiting on a key, but here in anderson all ammo has been behind a counter and I can't even read the labels from 5-6'. At least in a case, you can stand there and see what they have.

The wal-mart here in town has always had the their ammo in a glass case. They used to sell long guns, but that went away and now they just sell the smoke-poles during deer season. I have not had a issue with the associate who the key to the cabinet.

The last couple of times I've purchased ammo at wally world that handed it to me and told me I could pay up front with everything else I had when I finished shopping. This is counter to every other experience I had with them where they either walked it up to the front register or made me pay for it in sporting goods then escort me to the exit.

She said that they were told that the original reason they escorted it out is because they didn't want anybody loading up and then opening fire but it only seemed logical that if somebody was going to go postal that they would probably already be armed, loaded and ready to shoot!

Logic!? From Wal Mart?? What's next; Indianapolis gets a Super Bowl????:laugh:ey
