My understanding is that a very high number of self defense justifiable shootings result in civil cases initiated by the person shot or their family. Even when they're patently ridiculous, it still costs money to defend yourself against them...and with some of the juries out there they might just get an award, after all if they never worked they would stop doing it. Since there are a lot of scumbag attorneys out there who will do it on contingency, there's zero down side to trying for the scumbags family.

Great reason to avoid cali... but i think you could have that problem anywhere..

Not here in Indiana. per the IC linked above "if the person reasonably believes that that force is necessary to prevent serious bodily injury to the person or a third person or the commission of a forcible felony. No person in this state shall be placed in legal jeopardy of any kind whatsoever for protecting the person or a third person by reasonable means necessary."

I never get angry about stuff that happens in California. I'm no longer even surprised. It's not like it's happening in the U.S.A. ya' know!

My lib buddy wanted me to get upset when some cops/guards were whipping wholesale @ss on some Occupy group at Berkeley...

"Wait, you think I should be upset when some California-liberal-university-anti-gun-coexist hippies get their First Amendment rights trampled on?"

 (I had a good laugh)

I read this today. Even the mainstream media thinks its a joke. I think the civil suit will be thrown out. Or, like a victim said, he'll counter sue.
