Not sure this is the most relevant subforum for this topic, but this one has the most the most traffic and I wanted to put this in front of as many eyeballs as I could.

My smallish regional bank just upgraded their online banking website and when I logged on to the new site the first time, I was greeted by a bazillion pages of legal mumbo-jumbo I had to agree with to use the site. Unsure why I was required to agree to terms of something I was already using, I skimmed through it and found this nugget.

    1000001874.jpg

Second in the list of prohibited uses of online\electronic banking: firearms, ammunition, weapons.

I called the local branch to complain, told her I will probably be pulling my money, she said she would have the branch manager call me back. I'll be curious to see what she says.

Seems they could have just stopped after the first bulleted item.

It's amazing what they have listed... Crypto, equities, traveler's checks. So I can't use the service to purchase investments, etc.

I've never banked there but I've noticed from having to go in for a family matter that they like No firearms signs in their branches as well.
I'm very glad I still have access to a small local bank.

Where are ya? Betcha I can find you a good bank, pdq.

The credit union's "time of change" is a'comin', by the way, everybody. They have skirted a lot of rules for long enough that it's been noticed by a lot of people that matter. Frankly, it damn well should be noticed.

Run for the hills, don't look back. You will be happier for it.

Full disclosure, this was several years ago, but never liked the branches I used and especially the online banking. Definitley behind the times. Couldn't believe they made me go to a branch to answer some questions when I called. I think they were hoping to "sell" me other services. Closed the account as soon as I could as it was my late Father's.

Please report back when you hear from the manager. I was going to open a savings account there in the next day or two & transfer the majority of my funds to it.

Very unlikely to happen now. Now matter how the manager tries to explain it away it will remain.

My "best guess" is that they will volunteer to give up records to .gov if requested without a subpoena as well.

Reading all the prohibited items i think they are referring to trade in illegal firearms. Glock switches reloaded ammo selling. I dont think they are saying you can't use your debit card to buy a box of ammo or order yourself a new pistol from Buds. But please find out and keep us posted

    Then two things:

    First:
Why dont they specify ILLEGAL guns/ammo/etc?
Why doesnt it say illegal pornography?
    How is Crypto illegal?

Second why did they have to also specify "brand damaging"? THAT is why I believe they list perfectly legal yet distasteful to the left activities. They MEANT legal guns, legal porn, etc.

Very odd. There are a lot of legal activities there, including firearms. Are they saying it is against their terms of service to purchase anything as a consumer in these many legal categories? Or saying that you cannot operate a business in these categories? Either way, it's a stupid idea to ban legal activities.

    Thought this story seemed familiar...

In post #10 of that thread, BBI posted an update from the credit union saying: "Recently, part of our account agreement was shared without full context, causing confusion. The information shared only pertains to person-to-person payments and does not reflect how members can use their money. The terms stated are standard, applying for most payment services."

OP, you might double-check the defined terms in that agreement you posted. Is the captilalized term "Service" referring to online banking in general, or some kind of person-to-person payments like that Georgia Credit Union claimed?

Dunno, but if you do NOT accept a change your bank wants you to accept: the market is not without ample choices. :)

Vote with your dollars: Pull the accounts.
So far, my dollars are safe.

But, if that bank were be astray of the law being considered, it would have a MUCH larger effect.

Being safe is not the same as being happy.

Your dollar bills would be safe with me, in my home. But the rest of my home banking services would probably be found lacking.

Then again, I guess I wouldn't ask anybody to sign that kind of filth, so....
