Her campaign headquarters were singled out during the ObamaCare debate and she had windows shot out/shattered. She was one of the supporters of that legislation and I wonder if this murder and that prior attack on her headquarters are somehow related to her support of legislation as unpopular as ObamaCare (which has roughly 60% of Americans calling for repeal).

I wonder what her stance is on the immigration issues? I suspect that is more of a hot button issue in Arizona, although I could be wrong.

she is/was a us congresswoman,,,you live in the us... just what flipping team was she on if not ours???

    :xmad:

Ummm, she was a federal legislator. I don't consider anyone in federal government to be "us."

However, everyone seems to want to paint this as a politically motivated event. From what I've been reading, it seems to be more a mental illness issue. The guy was certainly no Tea Party member, no matter what. Some of his stuff seems to more socialistic or anarchistic. Police said they had had repeated contact with the guy, and that he had made threats. It just sounds like he was a kook. The police chief said in an interview that there was NO security present. I find that really odd, since I've seen Greg Ballard talk to two veteran's groups, and he had multiple thugs present keeping an eye on those dangerous vets!!

I'm not sure why you seem to want to paint him with the Tea Party brush.

Did anyone catch what type of firearm was used? If it was a semi-auto... watch out. When political figures are assassinated anti-gun laws get passed.

The original news story claimed it was an automatic weapon. Later reports had whittled it down to a 9mm pistol.

If it was a mexican, watch the seething rage from the same people on this board who were, just minutes ago, shrugging their shoulders because the congresswoman is a democrat.

No, I actually don't think it will change anyone's mind here. Almost everyone here is against illegals. And one of the reasons is that they commit violence.

No, the ones whose minds may be changed are those who think we should open our borders wide to any and all with no accountability.

However, I think it's a moot point. The media, who is "never wrong," has shown a picture of a young white dude who is in custody.

oh, be careful, you will be labeled a cop basher since its cops that protect him. he is protected because he is a mayor of a big city and has a police force under his control (or lack there of).

look a couple pages back and you will see post about the lack of security for congress. nothing new.

I apologizes for part of my comment. Gunman "should be tortured"..... Must be the Marine in me, A lil harsh but still he needs punished. Im a little bit afraid of this outcome! I got alot of money in sporting weapons, and everybody here does to. If there is somebody here talking about shooting people or political people the Admin needs to ban them!!!!

If there is a good marine in you, you should be against torture.

I do not have the time right now to read all of the posts and if this has been addressed before I apologize. It amazes me that these insane people actually use the LEAST effective weapon to commit these crimes!! If this person and the ones that committed this type crime before had used a bomb or even crashed into a group with a vehicle there would have been more casualties. I know it is terrible what took place but when they start hollering about guns they should consider if there was not a gun available he would have probably used a weapon that would have incurred more deaths and injuries. I know it is easy to say it could be worse but you really have to look at what would logically would have happened. This person was determined to do this and he was going to use any weapon available. It is hard to see any kind of positive here but looking at it , it is the lesser of evils that he used a firearm instead of a vehicle or a bomb. The anti-gun people will not see the whole picture and condemn guns when a readily available weapon, which would have caused more damage could have been used. Of course everyone has their opinion but this has long been my opinion when things such as this occur.

When you try to force communism on free men, some might fight back. Imagine if my Jewish brothers would not have gone off quietly with the nazi soldiers when they came for them back in the day. There may not have been a holocaust.

first of all, my thoughts and prayers go out to all the families involved. 2nd, i do condemn this act despite what i am about to say. I know now this will be obama's springboard for more gun laws, bad ones. He will use this woman and those others killed or injured just to futher his agenda. This is sad but will b true, mark my words.

Now i hope they just hang this guy but he'll get off on a psycho defense, its not right by any means, but to up attack an adult is one thing (which is also wrong)but what on earth did this 9 yr old girl do to deserve this?! What could cause someone to kill an innocent child. its a straight up shameful act and i hope he gets what he deserves

just wanted to comment on the news release I just read that came out on yahoo about 2o minutes ago, not much added that hasn't already said but I do want to say good job to the 2 men who tackled the gun and disarmed him before police got there, they probably saved a few more lives in the process.

Not really. It was the assasination of his brother Robert and then in the same year Martin Luther King that rallied the non-thinking crowd to action. In that same year the 1968 gun control act was passed into law.

Before that time you could go into a sporting goods store and buy a firearm like you buy a loaf of bread, or order a firearm through the mail and have it delivered to your home. Aaah, those were the days.

yeah, i am sad for the death of an innocent child and the other people. but I must be honest that when I first heard the news about a congresswoman being shot, I was numb to it and just didn't care. everyone who is just totally shocked and stunned and everything else ..... really? these rats are tearing our country apart and trampling our constitution and its really a surprise that some people are going nuts over it? I mean it does sound like this guy was a loon, but do you really think its impossible for the masses to do this too? with today's political climate I don't. people have been openly talking about tar and feathering. that's not really a peaceful and harmless process to poor boiling tar on someone and then throw feathers. I'm just watching. I certainly font think this will be the end of political violence. not that I agree with it in this way at all.
