Well I feel stupid.

So I took the time today to attempt building my first lower. Everything went fine until went to put in the pivot in. I lost not one but both detents. Now I get to go out and buy some extras.

Yeah, I had a panic moment building my first one when one of the springs sprung. It took about 15 minutes to find the errant little bugger. Good luck with yours

I haven't had that experience yet.... knock on wood. But I now have the nifty Wheeler Engineering tool that prevents loss. Well it's supposed to, I guess we'll find out on next build.

I think having that detent shoot out is kind of a right of passage when it comes to building ars.

I use a large Allen wrench as a slave pin. Couple dozen lowers, no prob.

So good news. I found one of the detents. I was using an Allen wrench and had no problems getting it to cover the detent. My problem always came when I was trying to swap in the pin.

The plastic bag is pretty smart even though I got it in no problem when I used it.

I just picked up one of those guys for under $2. I don't remember which size though.

I got mine in with an allen wrench. The only problem I had was a spring went flying (not the detent though, as It was in my hand getting pressed in. Overall, I guess I'm lucky, or just watched too many how-to videos.

when you buy the detents, buy a spare pivot pin.
insert spare from the LEFT. Use it to hold the detent in position. Put the other in from the right and use it to push out the spare.
done. easy as pie.
