I am now getting into firearms and looking to purchase a handgun very soon. It got me thinking. If I was limited to a few handguns, rifles, shotguns what would be the most well rounded and useful collection. I hadn't seen a post like this so I thought I would throw it out.

So if you were only able to have 2 handguns, 3 rifles, and 1 shotgun, what caliber and model would you purchase?

Hee hee! You are going to get a BUNCH of answers to this one!

For me, given your parameters, and assuming a reasonable budget and no NFA :

    1911 Government Model .45ACP
    SIG P228 9mm

    AR-15 5.56
    CZ 452 Varmint .22LR
    M1A .308

Remington 870 Marine Magnum 12 Gauge

If money were unlimited I'd revise my list...

Rockhopper did a nice job on caliber. For brands it really is what fits you and you can afford. Half the fun is in the hunt, as they say.

Two different caliber pistols is good when there are runs on ammo, like now.

A 22 is always good to have in the mix.

The AR is a versatile platform. Some may prefer AK to an AR.

    Long range hunter, check.

12 or 20 gauge shotgun-again a personal preference thing. 12 is certainly more popular. With maybe extra barrel options depending on what you want to do with it.

Is the Sig P228 the same/similar to M11-A1?

    1. Stick with the most common calibers. (.22lr, 9mm, 45ACP, .223/5.56, .308, 20gauge or 12 guage)

    2. For your criteria... the most common models:

Handgun - Glock or 1911 (CZ75 if we are talking about global commonality)
Rifle - Ruger 10/22 (everyone should own one), AR-15, Remington 700 in .308
    Shotgun - Remington 870 or Mossberg 500

Everything else is just gravy :D

    Pistols: Xdm 9 4.5 / M&P 22
    Rifle: AR 5.56 / 10/22 / r700 .308
Shotgun: not really needed IMO, would probably go with an 870 to fill this category.

Without using brands I will say

    1. Centerfire handgun

    2. Centerfire rifle

    3. 12 or 20 ga. shotgun

    4. Rimfire rifle

    5. Rimfire hangun

Anything else is just icing on the cake.

    2 handguns, 3 rifles, and 1 shotgun,

    1911 in .45 ACP
Glock .40 cal. - personally I wouldn't want it, but for the most useful collection of arms it fits right in. I prefer pretty to practical!

    AK pattern rifle in 5.45x39
    Ruger 10/22
    M1A in .308

    Remington 870 12 gauge

The very first response to the OP pretty much says all. You can insert your own preferred brand, but the type and calibres he listed are dead on.

So if you were only able to have 2 handguns, 3 rifles, and 1 shotgun, what caliber and model would you purchase

    compact pistol in 9mm, (glock 19, M&P9c, FNS-9, walther PPQ, hk P30,)

a full sized revolver, 686 5", 627 5", an old 66, or m65, ( or a blued version if you so desire) 5" is legal many places to hunt, and these are all durable guns.

I would get a rimfire rifle of some sort,

Savage bolt action, an old winchester ore remington target gun, or a CZ452, if you want a semi-auto geta marlin 795,

I would get an ar-15, froma quality makers, and at least 10 mags, add a reputable flashlight, and a red dot sight if you so desire.

and depending on your propencity either a precision minded bolt action, a light weight bolt action ( tikka T3) in .30-06, or a lever action in .357 to match the revolver.

If I was going for a shotgun and I wanted a pump I'd buy an ithaca or browning BPS,
a browning over under if that was my taste, and if I wanted a semi auto either a mosberg 930 JM, or a benelli M1 s90
