That thar is a juvenile Boxelder Bug.

They're all over my porch. Just wondering if they're bad for flowers/gardening.

Around here they hang out around Silver Maples. The south side of my house will be covered with them in the fall. They will bury into the mulch on the cool fall nights and when the sun hits during the day they'll be on the house. Spray them with hot soapy water, kills them and washes the house. It's a double win. Leave them untreated, and you will find them inside your garage and house all winter. They won't damage your house other than poop on your walls. They seem to be bad this year, the fall should be a treat.there are no box or any other elder near me, what else do they eat? I have a bunch of them too. How harmful are they? Do they sting or does the adult? Otherwise I will leave them be as my house is protected again infestation by Orkin.
When our daughter was young, we would have called that a "squish-em-dead"
