I'm not a the world is going to end kind of prepper, but I have been through my fair share of hurricanes and know the meaning of being prepared for emergencies. The Carnival Cruise ship that lost power has been on the news a lot for obvious reasons. My parents were on a cruise that had a similar engine room fire eons ago, so it really catches my attention. Here is a short list of things I am going to take on my next cruise in case we are adrift. What's on your list?

book a stateroom with a deck or opening port hole
    roll of bags
    smoke resistant masks
    battery powered fan
solar battery charger (standard sizes + phones)
    water filter straws
    mre entres
    scissors
    legal pocket knife
    leatherman
    tape
advil, tylenol, immodium, benadryl, horse tranquilizers
    sun tan lotion
candy (to give to kids who are scared of the situation)

Once on board stock pile water bottles, food, booz

I joked with my husband this morning that if we ever take a cruise we need to take the BOBs. :-)

Here's the deal - when a cruise line has the reputation of being the Walmart of the industry, you get what you pay for. If the price is almost too good to be true, they're taking shortcuts somewhere. In this case, Circus cruises KNEW this ship had engine problems and there were issues with it in January. Maybe had they checked the spark plugs and changed the oil every 3,000 miles like they were supposed to...

I have no problems being on a cruise and won't prep for any LT issues. This is a rare event given then number of passengers on cruises daily, I'll just be sure to make sure the cruise line I choose has a good reputation.

Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea
    Open Water
    Titanic!!!!

    You all are nuts.

    Hate the ocean.

Yep, For the most part I like my feet where I can see them on dry land! But, really the only cruise I want to take part in is the Bud Light Party one! At least that way we shouldnt run out of alcohol.

I ain't gettin' on no more big boats. Last one I was booked on I ended up with a rifle and a seabag.
Them fellers with the boats (US Navy) kept taking me places I wasn't keen about going to!
    Nope! No more big boats.

You won't catch me on one of their boats for sure. But guys, cruising is fun. You get to see a lot of places, and you don't have to pack and move between each destination. Holland America and Cunard are quite lovely.

If you're a cruise company designing your next big boat, and the name of the game is profit, do you use that extra few thousand square feet aboard (or whatever) for emergency preparation storage for your 2,000+ passengers or do you instead use it for an extra casino and rooms for an additional 1,000 paying passengers and take your chances?

I've never been stranded at sea with sewage running down the walls at Walmart!
